Braid Vs Fluoro In Thick Wood

Featured Replies

Which will hold up better for fishing Texas rigs, tubes, jigs, etc. in brush and standing timber?  Braid or fluoro?  I would like to fish as close to the bottom/structure as possible, which means the line will make a lot of contact with trees and wood.  Thanks.

Braid can and will lodged into wood if you are not careful. It doesn't hurt the braid too much if it's a high test but it's annoying. Flouro doesn't slice and bury into wood as much but if it does you have to check for a fray. Even the tiniest fray can render your flouro useless.

I agree with straight braid, with around #40 you will never break off. I once bent a 5/0 hook with #40 when the hook picked up a stump.

I use both...it depends on what rod i decide to pick up lol

braid for wood and grass, fluorocarbon for rocks and open water

The line with the greater diameter

Fluorocarbon is definitely better for wood. You can use braid for brush piles and grass.

They both have pros and cons. Fluoro is less visible, but does not cut itself into wood and get stuck. But it will break off easier. Braid is stronger, but more visible. It will not break off, but it can cut into wood and get stuck. Try both out and see what you like better.

Glad you found a good flouro that works for you. No one line is perfect so if your happy that's great.
