Selling Boat Question

Featured Replies

Hey guys I've never sold a boat before so help me out with paperwork needed for the buyer. From what I understand I need the title, registration and bill of sale. Anything else? Also, I've torn my boat apart looking for the title but haven't come up with it. What are my options to get a new title?

Go to the agency that issues the title.......they will have a process of filing for lost title.

I would do this before I posted it for sale......just so the selling process goes smoothly.

Rules and regs vary from state to state.  Check with your local DMV to see what all you need and how to get a new title.

It varies from state to state. In WI boats under 16' don't have a title. The registration card is all you need as that functions as the title. Down there you'd have to check with either the DNR or the DMV whichever titles boats in IA. If you need a title, you can just fill out a form and they'll send it to you. They may be able to print it right there too.
