Got my first Dremel tool, now what?

Featured Replies

Ok, i've decided to get into lure making, actually I decided a few months ago, but making them with a pocket knife and sand paper was getting old. I finished a crankbait from start to finish in about 10 minutes last night, so I get the basics. Is there any tips you experienced fellows can offer me? Thanks in advance!

get a structured tooth tungsten carbide high speed cutter bit.

it is a life saver. it will remove wood three times as fast as whatever you were using.

this bit just doesn't take no for an answer.

(the one i use is the first one, "taper")

Thanks guys, though, I already have the cutters because I heard people mention them before. What shapes should I aim for?

Hahaha, I like duct tape....... I got another ?..... how do you make sure your bill is straight, like, ummmmm, hard to explain..... :-/....to make sure the bill is at a 90 degree angle with the side of the bait, so that it doesnt swim up on it's side?

cant really help you here because i dont do lipped baits, but i can say that it is easier to get your bill straight when your lure is square (ie. when its drawn on wood, before you start shaping it)

and LBH is right, dremels are sooooooo versatile. i have the long tapered cutter because i find it to be the most versatile.

also get a 1/32" round high speed cutter for getting epoxy out of line ties and hook hangers.

Installing lips straight is not a problem, IF, you cut the slot while the blank is still square. Lay your pattern out on your block then scribe a centerline adound it, any holes for hardware or weights can be drilled and everything will be in alignment. Lay out and cut the lip slot using a mitre box so that it is square and straight. Now put that Dremel to use and shape the bait.
