Motor Questions...

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I recently purchased a 1995 Javelin 379T with a 1995 Johnson 150hp fast strike outboard motor (2 stroke). M concern is, that my boat is only a 17-1/2 ft boat and I cant get my boat past 35mph... When I read up on this boat with the same motor on the internet.. Everyone is saying that they're running 60+mph..... Also I can put the throttle down half way before I get any response from the motor. I would love to know what everyone thinks.... Thank you!

Incorrect throttle cable, maybe it's too long. Do you have a tach to read rpm's?

Both of these are great starting points to look into.  Did you not take this thing for a test ride?  Always test drive/ride on a boat especially used.  Yep you know what this means now

But hopefully not.

The response problem does sound like a cable or linkage issue.  That could effect the top end as well.  Hope it is as simple as that!

It could just use a good servicing. Sea foam could help clean it up. Make sure you are using a ethanol free gas

Thank you everyone. I assumed that the throttle cable was the issue. I purchased the boat from a dealer and its still under warrantee. I was just posting on here to see if everyone's thoughts were the same as my own. Again, thank everyone for the responses.

if under dealer warranty, let the dealer handle it.  probably improperly adjusted cable.

I had that same boat with a 115 motor and it would do 50 plus. It's one of the best boats I've ever had. I miss it.

Definitely take it back to the dealer. No way they should have given you a boat that's acting like that.
