I'm thinking of picking up a light swimbait. I'm talking nothing over an ounce that I can throw on a MH rod. I only have experience with soft-bodied swimbaits, so anyone have any suggestions on a hard-bodied one?

I have had good luck with the Strike King baby king shad. While only 3" I have caught some nice bass and had a follow to the boat from one of the biggest muskies I have ever seen, so big fish potential should be there with bass too.

Bass Pro just reintroduced their XPS soft swimbait that is a nice little bait.

The 168 S waver or two smaller sizes of Savage Gear Glide Swimmer are good baits.

Two hard swimbaits I like are the Savage Gear Liplure and the Biwaa S'Trout.

BBZ-1 4" Shad swimbait, medium sink 7/8 oz.

R2sea S-Waver 4", 120 sinking is 15/16 oz.

Take a look at jointed lures like Strike King baby King Shad and several Rapala lures.

It has a tight swim with a short glide and sinks kinda slow and is kinda hard to fish with any depth. You can add weight to it so it glides a bit wider and sinks quicker so you can fish deeper but it's kinda difficult to keep it balanced. It took me quite a bit to figure out exactly how to weight it correctly.

You kind of need to be in the 1 1/2 ounce range and most M/H jigs rods can throw that no problem. But even then your sorta limited.

Pull the trigger, I have 6-7 of them and really like them a lot. They are for the patient angler, they aren't made to be ripped in. If you can get them under $30, do it.

They work and I have quite a few myself and if you can get them at a ok price it's not a bad buy at all. It's not about being for the patient angler. It's just a light bait even though it's really not and rises easily. They do kill it at times and 2-3' below the surface is plenty fine fishing glides lots of times. They are just very tricky to change the ROF and not mess up te swim. Even if you follow instructions on the Deps site an only use weight in the colored areas. You can change hooks add plate weights but it won't swim perfect and I need perfect. The only real solution is to remove the stock weight and make your own weight that is exactly the same but thicker. You want to make it as symmetrical as possible and the same length so it doesn't cross that halfway mark in the weight slot. I think stock is 1.6 grams and I have some with weights up to 4 grams in them and they fish much better in my opinion.

I don't own one, but I will. I understand it's cheap, but look at the reviews. Good hooks and hardware and catches big fish per the reviews. I'm all for saving money if it's effective.

My patient angler comment was in no way a dig at you..Im just saying they dont sink fast and the dont work well when retrieved quickly..so slow and steady works best.

No worries. Even slow and steady they are hard to keep down even on 6# line. a straight retrieve will get bit but I do best changing speeds and making it dart around.
