Lake George Info

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone has any experience at all on Lake George in NY. I'm going a week early to get a few days of fishing in but could use as much help as possible about the lake itself. Thanks

Check out the Adirondack forum the hunting and fishing section.

Also, the NYS DEC website has maps and information about each lake.

Additionally, there is a publication by Sportsman's Connection covering lakes in various regions of NY. it is sold at Walmart,Bass Pro, etc. you may be able to order this online from their site. I got one of these several years ago when we started going to the ADKs for vacation in September and it is quite helpful.

I have a lot of experience there, what would you like to know?

In general I'd say fish deep, and be ready for boat traffic.

Where on the lake will you be staying?  Your best be may be to get up north as far as you can to escape the boat traffic on the busy southern basin.  The smallmouth fishing is everywhere, as the lake has a rocky shore and is full of islands with rocky shores.  There are also plenty of rocky mid-lake shoals.  :-)

You could hardly go wrong fishing the deep drops off the windward side of islands with lots of broken rock bottom.

Enjoy your stay there... it's a beautiful body of water surrounded by beautiful scenery.  I used to live on the lake years ago, and still spend almost every weekend there (when I'm not fishing).

Tight lines,

Bob

Just wondering where the best place to stay was and what to expect as far as bass fishing basically. You guys pretty much hit the nail on the head. Thank you so much!

Fish offshore humps, ledges, or deep drop off's. Like the others said, the North end is a lot quieter boat traffic wise. Early morning and evenings the boat traffic slows down significantly.

This time of year you want to fish in 30-40 FOW  or deeper or your going to be catching a ton of little fish. There are some big bass in Lake George, there are just a bunch of small ones too. I've talked to charter boat captains who have caught 5-6 lb smallies in 70 FOW.

As far as where to stay, depends on availability, price you wanna pay, and where you wanna stay. Tons of motels and resorts in Lake George Village all the way to Bolton Landing. Not so many up north. There are island campgrounds run by NYS DEC. There are also two state campgrounds on the lake, Hearthstone Point in the south and Rogers Rock in the North. Rogers Rock has a nice boat launch.

Guys in my club go lake george every year. They are always talking about top water smallmouth in 20 30 ft of water.

Thank a lot guys!

I have had more luck on the southern shore with all the boat traffic than on the northern but ive only been there a handful of times.
