Minnow Trap ?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My Dad always wanted to try out one of those Minnow Traps so I ordered one today. I was wondering if anyone here uses them, and if I need to have it in the water overnight ? Can you suspend it from a boat when fishing ?

Thanks for any info.

PS I put it in the "other fish species" catagory because it didn't seem to fit in any other forum.

Just put it anywhere you see minnows. Put some dough balls or tortillas in it to attract them. And make sure you check your States trapping and tagging laws. May need to tag it.

I've had solid success leaving them at the mouth of small feeder streams & creeks overnight.

Might need to look for "low Traffic Areas"; otherwise the trap may grow legs . . . .

I used minnow traps a lot. Bad part is they were constantly getting swiped .Once I  started covering them with rocks that stopped . I usually baited then with a slice of bread bit I think anything would work. Dry pet food works good .

Thanks for the info ! I'm going to leave one out overnight and see what pops in.
