Broke A Rod Today..

Featured Replies

I was using a punch jig around stumps. Had a hit, set it big because of the mats over and around the stump area I was in. Missed the set and caught the stump... crack!

First time I've broke a rod.

Exactly where did the break occur, and describe the appearance of the break.  It is possible, if it's a rod worth some time and effort, to fix many breaks.  The rod most likely, if it's a candidate, will fish just the same after the repair as it did before.

The break was 3" above the 6th guide. It's a life time warranted rod so the company should replace it. I sent them an email earlier today. I have many of their products and I've gotten to know the customer service folks so I don't expect them to refuse sending me a new rod.

That wasn't the Ike rod you were talking about on the other thread, was it?

No it was my Lews Magnum One. A Super Stick for punching.

If Lews replaces it great.. If not I'll replace it with an IKE 72-6.

The IKE rods are really nice. Absolute Quality.

Cool. Your posts inspired me to look up the rods in more detail, and I've put them on my radar.

Looks like you did a number on that one! It's a sick feeling when you hear that crack, hopefully it gets taken care of.

I just got an email from Lews customer service. They are sending me a new rod. I was confident they would.. They have been so good to me over the past two years.

I couldn't ask for more from a company.

I've snapped 3. One was being stored in a rod locker and when I pulled it out the tip was broke (talk about a what the fudge moment). One was when I was a little kid, pulling on a snag, not even hard and the tip just fell off. The 3rd was earlier this year, bouncing around in 3 footers over on Sturgeon Bay, I was re-rigged something with my rod over the side of the boat. Went to step up on the front deck and the rod got caught under the tie-down cleat and that's when I first heard the distinct crack. Not a good feeling at all.

Glad they're replacing it for you!
