Trimming frog legs

Featured Replies

I like to trim regular frogs to help them walk would I do the same to poppin frogs (booyah poppin pad crasher)  :huh::huh::huh::huh:

Popping style frogs don't walk as well as the keel shaped ones because of their overall shape. So if your only reason for trimming the legs is to help them walk, I wouldn't bother with it on the pad crasher.

Try Snag Proofs Ish's Poppin Phat Frog, Both styles of his frog are easy to walk, no trimming needed.

I trim the legs of my frogs.  It gives the legs more action, easier to walk, and just looks better ;)

Denny Brauer says trim them to about one inch or so. But I would experiment cutting a little at a time on the way down...

Yes. I trim my poppin pad crashers legs down to about an inch. They walk perfect. I trim all my frogs like to get them to walk tighter and keep sunfish from jacking with the legs. Wore largie out on the Cricket poppin pad crasher last year.

I trim all frog legs, popping or otherwise.  I'm not sure of the effect it has on action, because I haven't noticed much difference, but I really feel like it changes the fish's strike zone if the legs are shorter.  I have had far fewer short strikes after I started trimming than I did before.

I make walkers to help frogs with trimmed legs walk. You'd be surprised at how many frogs there are with trimmed legs that need my service.

For my poppers I just turn the legs up and trim them even with the top of the head. For those the less you have for them to aim at that isn't the main body the better.

For walkers I trim one leg a half inch down. It makes them walk so much easier.

I don't trim mine, I like the larger profile of the full legs. I trim them (or cut them all the way off), on the regular frogs though.

Most people I've seen using them on TV and YouTube have them trimmed so far they don't really look "froggy" anymore.

I don't normally trim mine though I am considering trimming the jackal iobee since they are so much longer than the actual frog

Also has anyone fished the spro king daddy? I picked up 6 new frogs last weekend
