The cold weather months are always fun because everyone gets bunched up in the same areas and you never know what is going to bite next!

Shasta Lake has been producing quite a few Rainbow Trout for me lately, with four rainbows caught the past two trips and a fifth one that broke off at the boat.

My wife also caught an aggressive blue gill using a ned rig which was a first for us.

It was a good weekend for big "other" fish. Monday I had 3 trout over 4 pounds, including a 6.31 and 6.76 pound rainbow off the same spot on the same bait. I'm still not convinced it wasn't the same fish, just not sure how to account for the half a pound it would have had to gain the 5 minutes between catches.

Tuesday I was after wipers and they showed up big time. I caught several, had a giant straighten a 4X strong #4 treble on my jigging spoon, and broke my lake PB twice, first with an 8.22, then a crazy fat 9.04.

A "little" 6.5

The 8.22 that was almost digesting my jigging rap shad.

and the 9.04 that was about as tall as it was long and super thick.

Do you ever sleep? With working nights, really young children, and fishing when do you sleep my friend?

Depending on the day of the week but usually 4-6 hours between 10am and 6pm. Sunday-Tuesday are my days off so that's when I go.

Did you weigh that beast? The 9 pounder I caught last week was only 24" long and that one doesn't look skinny at all.

My sister was with her boyfriend.  They weighed it and said it was 9. How big does it look to to you?

I've never seen one that long that wasn't a DD fish. My 11 was only 26", but our wipers are super fat too. Still, I'd be really surprised if it wasn't over 10.

This one is 8.5 pounds for scale. It was very thick, but still way shorter.

and my 11.2 that was a little over 26"

Then Ondrejka's 12 pound monster was 27.5" long. Obviously very fat, but like I said, I'd be shocked if that one wasn't over 10.
