My dad and I finally got a day on the water and he's been craving fish, so I did like a good son and put him on some dinner (and a whole bunch of other fish that were released).

Southern version of toothy critters. The sauger was big enough to ride home with me

One of 2 chain pickerel caught yesterday along with 8 LMB.  Note the telltale black bar of a pickerel beneath the eye.

Finally, got the boat out for the first time this year, the main lake was only 37 deg with skims of ice in a few spots, but we found a small river coming into a shallow bay that was 48 deg and loaded with small pike and smallmouth. No big girls, but it was still a last to have the rods bent a bit and enjoy some sunny weather. Only gonna get better from here on.

We're real big on snakehead fishing here in SoFlo, so much so that LMB are becoming a secondary target.

The last outing got us ten fish, three upwards of 9 pounds, two at 10+ pounds lost and one lost after it leaped out of the cooler after being on ice for nearly a half hour.

We're heading out again tomorrow the 7th.

Pond fishing has been great for multi-species fishing.

Buddy and I hit the white bass run about perfect over the weekend. Managed around 150 in 2.5 hrs of fishing.  Darn near every cast at times.

A little late to the show, but have some nice pics from a weekend trip  the last weekend in March.  Had 3’ of ice and pretty calm, warm conditions(for the northern Maine highlands). We did the best for salmon and lakers offshore over 170FOW just beneath the ice. We tried for brookies near shore but couldn’t get anything besides a dozen dinky perch.

We did catch a few inside the shelter,  with the biggest being 23.5”,  no trophy’s by any means but a lot of fun!!

Beat my PB Bull Frog today;

vqRrluSh.jpg

phmbl7Zm.jpg

Before I have always caught them on topwaters or on plastics the second it touches down.  This one picked that jig up off the bottom and ran with it.  Thought it was a bass for about 5 seconds, thought it was a snakehead for about 5 seconds, then I got him up and laid eyes on the brute.  He was just skinhooked out side his mouth and he hopped away once I got it out.

Crappie wouldn't leave me alone this week. Tons on a Ned rig, which isn't unusual

Image may contain: outdoor and water

Caught a toad crappie on a 1.5 I didn't take a picture of for some reason, but it was about a 14" male white crappie.

Working on my dropshotting a lot this spring and managed to smack a nice black crappie doing it.

Image may contain: outdoor

The boy had to dig is heels into the side of the boat when this little channel cat took off with his Ned rig. Think I might need to put him on some bigger ones on purpose soon and get some video of it.

I don’t know if I’d want a picture of a grinning shark on my PFD, but maybe I’m just more superstitious than most. ;)

The fish are finally moving up the canal in my area. It is a Rock Bass honey hole this time of year. Got some nice sized specimens as well as my personal best Fallfish.

That's a big fallfish!  The only place I've caught them regularly is Upper Saranac.  I was able to get out on Sodus Bay this weekend, but mostly chased the perch.  Bass aren't awake yet, it seems, and it was too easy to catch a bunch of perch.

I want to say that’s a PB leopard frog as opposed to bull frog, which is Even more impressive to land with a jig

I would admitt that I am very very weak on my frog ID.  It was very weird, it was only in maybe a foot or so of water but I’ve never had one hit a lure that wasn’t right on the surface before.

Not trying to start an argument, but I do not think it is a leopard frog.  I think leopard frogs have a dorsal lateral ridge and the frog in the photo does not have a dorsal lateral ridge.  The frog in the photo looks more like a bullfrog (a female bullfrog - the tympanum is the same diameter as the eye).
