Wacky Rig saves the day!

Featured Replies

Just got home from a great morning at my local conservation area lake.  Knew the wind would pick up so I just beat the banks and the fishing dock.  Been wanting to get better at working a wacky rig so I just took my finesse set up and my Senko box.  Had a couple of strikes until I put on a bubblegum.  Holy cow!!  Caught 4 pigs and had tons of hits.  They weren't just trying to eat it...they were trying to destroy it.  Just made a WR believer outta me.  First WR fish and first fish of 2016.  A beautiful morning here in NOWEMO.

bubble gum senko/trick worms have caught some hawgs around here.

Not by me, but, I bought a bunch over winter to use this year in hopes of hooking up with one.

Congrats dude!

Love the wacky rig.

Wacky is my absolute favorite rig!

Nice whack'n 'em today!

My wife, 4 sons and I walked the Civil War trails
around Lee Hall Reservoir today. While it was fun,
except for the complaining that I took the trail that
was too long, it was awesome.

The waters called to me. I woulda fished if I could
have, and a wacky rig would be the first thing I'd
have thrown!!

Hard to say, Mike, since T-Rigging is a fairly slow
retrieve, same with wacky. Or if you throw on a
weighted wacky hook, you can move a tad faster.

I always throw by laydowns, or tall grass and just
let the bait fall. If you think you're slow enough, as
they say, slow down some more.

Maybe that's it? Or maybe they've seen enough of
it in Jacksonville that they prefer the TX? :)

Well as they say, ya do what works for ya!

Guys swear by bubblegum color where I fish.

Never caught one on that color yet. I try, but
it just doesn't work for me. I say slay 'em with
the TX rig and enjoy life on the water! :)

good job...i rarely if ever wacky rig but i think this year i am gonna give it a whirl just for something different.

If I can't get a bite a wacky rig or lipless crank is my go to. They've helped me many a day not get skunked haha

Late winter and early spring that crazy bubblegum color works magic! I think people who don't use it are just not liking being seen with such a "purty" color. LOL! :)

Before yesterday I had never had any success with it.  One of my my main goals in 2016 is to SLOOOOOOW DOOOOOOWN.  So I did.  I fished it weightless and let it fall all the way to the bottom.  Give it a couple flicks...raise it a bit and let it fall back to the bottom.  Couple flicks, raise it, let it fall...etc.  Shockingly.....it worked!

It could be wearing a tutu and ballerina slippers for all I care.  If it;s catching hawgs, I'm in!

Good going! Sometimes around here they just kill bubblegum colored baits.

I love wacky rig and I also love pink colors. The fish seem to destroy it sometimes! Sounds like a great morning! :)
