So I got these two rods recently and I would like to know which one would be a better rod for cranking and using spinner baits, chatter baits, etc. The first rod is a Dobyns Fury 733C which is a 7'3 MH Fast action. The second rod is an Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Micro Guide 7'3 MH Fast Action. At this point in time I feel like I want to use the Veritas for cranking because it feels stiffer. The Dobyns has a a faster action which I think I should use for finesse and soft plastic applications. What do you guy's think?

Six one, half dozen the other IMHO.  Try them both and see which you like better for which application. 

I just bought (2) Dobyns Fury 705CB which is design specifically for crankbaits (CB)! The only one they make in the Fury line. Plus it has Moderate/Fast taper for treble hook applications! I would probably go with the 733C for crankbaiting because it's a 3 power which gives you a little more play in the rod & Veritas for plastics! Sorry I'm not a Abu fan so I really can't comment on their products! IMO, it's what works for you on the water! Good luck though

Between the two I'd have to agree with trying the Fury first.  You don't want a stiffer rod for crankbaits.  Just the opposite.  You want one with more give to keep the fish pinned.  Personally I feel a MHF is not a good action for any crankbaits.  Be sure to lower drag pressure, and use a mono or co-polymer line.  Preferably one with a bit of stretch, which means going with a softer line.  Braid would be my absolute last choice for cranking on this type of rod.  I have used MF rods for crankbaits, tho, with pretty good success.

To be honest, I wouldn't use any of those rods for cranking, New2BC4bass is 100% correct, you don't want a stiff rod to crank with. A rod with a fast action will bend about 1/3 of the way down the blank, the terms we use like "Fast", "Extra Fast", "Mod-Fast", and "Moderate" describe the speed in which the rod goes from bent to straight and the further the rod bends means the longer it takes to get back to straight. So a fast action rod bends about 1/3 of the way down the blank but it could take a lot of pressure to make the rod bend, or a little less pressure, if it bends easily it is referred to as a soft tip. With the 2 rods you have, neither is a rod for cranking but if you have to use one, use the rod with the softest tip section.

I'm with these guys. For normal crank baits (18' and up) I use a M/Mod glass rod with braid and fluoro for leader. Braid is just easier to work with.  For lipless and squarebills I use a MH/Fast with 12lb mono. I like to have less rod slop when ripping through weeds and bouncing rocks. 

Ultimately you want some give somewhere be it your line or your rod. Heavy cranks (20' and down) are a totally different beast. 

You do not want to use that veritas for cranking other than big square bills around cover. Thats all i can help with, havent used the other one.
