Spring spinnerbaiting: what are you throwing?

Featured Replies

I want to know what you throw nowadays, brand and model. Im a good spinnerbaiter, but most of my lures are old or bargain bin. I really got bit good the other day on an old mann's with a perch color skirt and single silver willow. Whipping wind in shallow water. There is a new Dick's at the mall so Im thinking of re-upping my spinnerbait collection for this season.

G&G Spinnerbaits is a local guy from Indiana that makes great spinnerbaits.  I like white&chartreuse for 75% of my spinnerbait fishing.  Weight determined by depth.

Chartreuse and purple skirts and double  silver indiana blades. Hidden weight heads.

War eagle spinnerbaits I lIke the tandem willow and colorado blades . My favorite color is probally sexy shad and coleslaw

95% of my spinnerbaits were made by a friend who does this as a hobby. This early in the spring in Ohio I throw a 3/8oz. nickel blade Colorado or Indiana white skirted bait.

War Eagle Mouse color with a little chartruese in the skirt.Good bait for the money.Well made and run true.

If you want to save some money strike king makes spinnerbaits just for dicks that are around 3.50 and are pretty decent

This early in the season, I like a single colorado blade short arm.  Most of the ones I have I've shortened the arm, gone up in blade size, removed the clevis and front blade from a BooYah double colorado. I don't like using a trailer hook early in the year, because if they're hitting a spinnerbait, they will inhale a slow moving one most every time.  Skirt and blade color are chosen with water clarity and sky conditions per norm. As the water warms, I'll downsize the blade and add a Kalin's grub as a trailer.  I still want a slow retrieve, but the appearance of something moving faster.  The smaller blade does that.

I was out couple days ago and the usually sure crankbait didn't even get a bump.  Pulled out an old rusty $1 Walmart special - used to be white, but changed color from rust :).  Got 5 in 30 minutes....   This one has been good in a quarry with lots of shad.

The only spinnerbait I throw is the terminator t1 spinnerbait in bluegill. Catches hogs.

War Eagle spot remover has been good for me lately. I've been using a 3/8oz tandem Colorado/Indiana blade combo. War Eagle is about the only spinnerbait I fish with the exception of a few Booyahs for ponds/yak fishing or dirty water.

Siebert Outdoors spinnerbaits are killer. Along with some great color choices and weights

Chatterbait or swim jig............LOL. I retired the spinnerbaits a few years ago, and don't even own any as of right now.

Strike King 3/8 oz single Tennessee nickel or gold blade white & chartreuse skirt, been throwing that bait for a good couple of decades, actually, it´s pretty much the same spinnerbait only with a new skirt when the old one wears out.

+1!!! I love Seibert spinnerbaits. Made very well and the bluegill color is amazing. When I don't have a Seibert tied on its a war eagle or terminator.

x whatever on the war eagle!  otherwise i use the terminator t1, but only when i find them on sale because they're expensive otherwise.  still makes me cry a little inside when i lose one like i did on saturday thanks to the most squirrelly cast you've ever seen....

i like the stanley vibes, but honestly couldn't keep the blades on them.  catch one fish that wants to thrash around and adios blades!

This time of year I like short arm Colorado blade by Stan Sloan Zorro lures or big beetle spins (listed as saltwater version)  or War Eagle 5/16ths finesse spinner baits with colors depending on water clarity.
