Haven't posted these in a few months, but here's my May 2017 MTB Pro box:

MTBprobox170509.thumb.jpg.941163a57c8016708d35571757ea3666.jpg

--Booyah Bass Pop 2", "Ghost Shiner"

--Lucky Craft Sammy 85, "Aurora Gold"

--Optimum Baits Hand-Poured Drop Shot Kit

--StandOUT drop shot hooks, Red Alert assortment (5 of different sizes)

--Bruiser Baits Rad Shad soft jerkbait (looks like a "baby bass" color")

--Smartbaits Smart Bomb stick worm (color-changing? apparently smoke-chartreuse in shallow/warm to junebug/blood-red in deep/cool conditions...this will be interesting to see)

--"Catch and release" sticker

--Bait card

--Dibble digest

Decent box -- I should be able to put everything in here to good use.

So one of my biggest issues is figuring out what products are meant to be fished in the same presentation. Or even how I should present each lure. Does MTB or LBT provide adequate instructions on this?

MTB does on-line, I imagine LTB does as well.

Great question! Every box we send has a small magazine inside with fishing tips. We also make videos for most of the items we send on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/MysteryTackleBox/videos

Hope that helps!

the "about my box" section of the website is a bit difficult to find at times, but they do have direct links to the videos for most baits

Yes, there is also a link at the bottom of the About My Box card that takes you to the website where you can find all of the videos. We are going to be working on making this info more accessible in your account.

Hey Guys,

Great question.  For our Bass Box, we create a tip and technique video on each of the items in the box.

It looks like all of them have videos you could watch on line, on how to fish them.

I watched them some were just reviews. I mainly wanted to see what others thoughts were.

I use the plasmatail in that exact color a lot. Looks like you have the 4.5" version, the small one. I put that on a slider head and fish on the bottom, or a drop shot. The 6.5 I use on a shakyhead or mojo rig.  I posted a review of it a while back when it came out, after Biospawn sent me some samples in a random drawing of their email list, which I joined because they were a sponsor here:

I'd try putting the evil twin grubs on those jigs, and drag and hop them around.

The strike pro looks is a wake bait, or surface crankbait -- fish that as a topwater.

put the swimbait hooks on paddle-tail swimbaits if you have some, like a keitech.

put the garlic scent on the worms or grubs, if you want.

Good stuff.

MTB pro June arrived:

MTBprobox170615.thumb.jpg.cebed0b1782849ac1b5026e2db111e99.jpg

--V&M Cliff Pace Buzz Frog, white

--Biospawn Vile Craw, Watermelon Red

--Lucky John Lui Pencil 98, odd, brownish color

--Storm arashi Silent Square bill 5 --

--Charlie's Worms Finesse Worm, black

--Mustad 4/0, 1/8oz swimbait hooks

--Garlic Scent

--MTB sticker

--Bait card

(no dibble digest this month?)

Good box...

That said, I am going to raise a criticism [EDIT: Addressed below! Mistake in packing the box]: The Vile Craws are a sample pack, but the bait card lists the price of a full pack. I do not mind samples at all. But MTB always used to adjust the price on the bait cards to reflect the value of the sample. It appears they no longer do this all the time, which disappoints me. Also, one of the selling points of the Pro box used to be that you would get full packs instead of samples. This apparently is also longer the case.

This was one of my long-standing problems with LTB, when I was a subscriber: the bait card would list the price of a full pack, even when they sent a sample, and thus the values of the boxes were often systematically exaggerated based on the bait card. LTB always said they "tried" to send full packs of plastics whenever they could; in practice, half of the packs I got were samples. But this was never reflected in the values on the bait card. And that never sat well with me, as it seems to mislead subscribers about the value they are getting. I don't mind samples, but I expect not to be mislead about what I'm getting. And it was always something I felt gave an advantage to MTB. Now, I see MTB is going the same route, and thus has lost that advantage.

So here is my message to MTB and LTB:  Please stop doing this. You both provide a good service with good value. You don't need to promote false impressions of that value. When you include samples, be honest about it and adjust the listed price to reflect the value of the sample. You know full well subscribers use the bait card to estimate the value of the box. I have seen representatives of both of your companies encourage subscribers to add up the prices on the card to estimate the value of the box. You must know this is misleading.
