Yes, but be careful reeling it in.  I would not recommend using one small enough to travel through your guides.

If you continue to hit your tip top guide with the swivel, you'll eventually damage it and may knock out the guide insert. ( if there is one)

I recommend getting better at knot tying, to the point where you can feel safe with a knot connecting two lines. There are a lot of simple line-to-line knots. For braid to mono or fluoro, I use the Albright special. For leader knots not involving braid (this is rare for me) I use the uni-uni knot. I have 100% confidence in my leader knots, and I can't recall ever having one fail on me. A barrel swivel will work, but in order to keep the swivel out of the guides, your leader will not be as long. By tying lines directly to each other, you can really make the leader as long as you want. Try taking an hour or so to practice leader knots. It will be a huge help. I'm sure you can find videos on YouTube with some close-up assistance for knot tying.

also try using the alberto knot,lots of youtube videos on how to do it. great knot for mono or flour to braid. I use it all the time for joining lines. better for a knot than a swivel to go through the guides.

Make your life easier and skip the leader altogether.

I stopped using a double uni for my braid to fluoro and just use Spro power swivels with a Palomar on each side.   Nothing wrong with it but just be mindful of reeling in too much where the swivel will hit your guides.

There's a knot I learned from a Aaron Martens video I don't even know if I tie it right but it works and has yet to fail me. 

 

Loop the fluoro

pass braid through

Pinch loop and braid leaving a good 8 inches through

wrap braid 8 times up 

pinch and wrap 5-6 times back

put braid back through loop same direction braid enters loop (so it looks like 2 lines going into same hole)

grab both braid lines and both FC lines on each side

continuously lube and pull, stop for straightening out wraps if needed

when you get it down release tag ends and pull both main line one good time snug 

snip tag lines as close to knot you can

cut FC for desired leader length

 

look up his video of you need a visual

ok so if i was going to do this i would def invest in owner soft beads.  i have them on my muskie rods to protect the tip top  from the steel leader swivel  here is a link to what i am talking about

Have u tried the uni to uni? It's a very simple knot to tie with lots of vids of it on utube. 

Learn to tie the alberto or uni to uni.  Take some time to practice because they are pretty simple and well worth the effort.  Winding the swivel into guide will damage it eventually.

i was going to echo the above on being careful not to reel up the swivel into your guide tip.  a small plastic or glass bead would probably help avoid that.  i've broken the insert out of the tip on a small UL rod by reeling up the swivel into the tip, not cool!
