You shouldn't but nice to know that it's capable

Recommended Posts

Nice to know that an old classic 20 years old reel can still cast a weightless Senko a good 60-70 feet with judicious thumbing. This was an Abu Garcia 6500 CS MAG, design for surf fishing. With 20lbs fireline, 30lbs leader and a stiff 7ft6 flipping rod, it's not practical for casting the light stuff but it's nice to know that you can do it if it's your only reel. I had removed the brake blocks, set mag to maximum of 8, and had to thumb it during the entire cast. Practical? No. But fun none the less.

Then I go and do this with the bass reel.

Took the reel 80 miles offshore for snappers and jigged up a 17 lb grouper. That was a fun fight with 20lbs Fireline.

still use 4600c4's and have put ceramic bearings in them. made a big difference in casting light lures.
