LebecFisherman
I was wondering what you think about kayak fishing for bass? I know kayaks are mainly used for fishing off the coast.
Bassin101
I use a 9 1/2 ft recreational, sit in, kayak on my local lake and it works great. I have it rigged to hold two or three poles. I primarily use spinning gear with it. It weighs 38 lbs without any gear. I can carry or cart it to the lake. It is easy to paddle and comfortable. Plus when you are out there alone, it is very relaxing. Good Luck
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 30, 2005 Super User Share Posted June 30, 2005 I have an Ocean Kayak that seats two. I would NOT recommend one to you, especially if you are big or a little less flexible than you use to be (old). First of all, you can't move around at all so I have to go to the bank and just get out occasionally. There's not much room for gear and you have to cast from a rigid seated position that is often at an awkward angle to your target. When you catch a bass you can't move her and you have no leverage sitting right on top of the water. Then when you get it to the boat, especially if it's a big bass, it is VERY hard to get a handle on the fish, even if you have a net. Finally, the kayak is significantly effected by even the slightest bit of wind. You spend a lot of time and effort paddling with one hand and holding your rod in the other, just to make small adjustments in your boat position. Rattlinrogue
I float several creeks and rivers in this area in a canoe mainly for the small "tighteye" bass and bream.I'm thinking about getting a one man kayak for Xmas. The one I'm looking at is specially made for fishing. It's got storage for R&R,Tbox, and cooler mainly from the use of bungee cord and a recessed area for each. Butneway
My wife and I both have Wilderness Systems Pungo 120's with the fishing packages on them. We love them! I can fish on a lake or take it back into water on rivers and streams that my boat can't get to.
