What's your opinions on the perfect Texas rig rod for spot pitching into shallow cover? Length, power action, guides etc. 

When I say shallow cover not talking about  mats or anything you need a punching rod for.. I'm talking 6 foot or less on shore line trees, cypress knees, lay downs etc. where you pitch to a specific target with Texas rigs??!!??

7ft 3 or 7ft 6 medium heavy to heavy fast action depending on bait weight. I personally use a dobyns 734 champion.

My #1 Texas Rig for the last 10-12 years is a Crucial CRC-X610MHXF, cork handle (this is my second one), it replaced a G. loomis that someone stepped on. In my opinion it is every bit the rod the Loomis was.

Lure: 3/8-3/4 oz

Power: Medium Heavy

Action: Extra Fast

I personally like a 7'2" MH 

im going custom this time around cant decide on fast or xf.. And I have used both mh/f or mh/xf in 7'0

I like the Orochi XX Jig & Worm. It has tons of power and it's short so you can maneuver well. 

If there is no actual mats I'm going for the 852c and I likely won't put a weight on it if there's only 6' max depth.  The hook will be enough.

 

I use a Pixy R and 20# braid though, so that's a big part of making that work for light weeds or near structure too.

If I was putting a weight on it I would probably want the 893 though.  

Between a 7 and 7'4 medium extra fast rod is my preference.

For that situation, I'd be pulling out my 7'1" MH/F St. Croix Legend Tournament.

I fish a texas rig a lot and have been using the 7'2MH XF crucial worm and jig rod (foam grip).  Plenty of backbone for weeds/cover and the xfast tip is pretty sensitive.  The rod is pretty versatile, I was able to use it to throw weightless plastics and lighter jigs (1/4oz to 3/8oz). 

I have been looking for a replacement and have been pretty happy with my Kistler magnesium 2 - 7ft Heavy-MH Xfast.  Super light and does pretty well.  I feel like it doesn't have the same backbone as the crucial, but that might just be in my head.  I typically fish from a kayak so rods that can pull double duty are totally worth it to me.

Yeah. I fish a 7'6" M, for drop shots. I just don't like the way that rod behaves for anything other than slow dragging.

Depends on conditions for me, if the shore is pretty open, then I use a ML-F spinning rod, a Daiwa Shock Custom, with a Pflueger Tri-30, spooled with 10 lb. mono, sometimes with a 6 lb. mono leader.  I use it for lighter plastics and as more of a "finesse rig".  I throw things like 7" ribbon tails, baby Brush Hogs, and lizards.  I almost always use a 1/8 oz. bullet weight, unpegged, and a 1/0 or 3/0 round bend hook, depending on the bait.

If the cover is pretty heavy and there is a lot of brush/vegetation, I use an old Shimano FX-2000 in MH-F.  It's pretty stout, so I spool it with 50 lb. braid, and I sometimes use a mono leader in 15 or 20 lb. test.  I usually use it for big worms (10" and 12"), heavy stick worms (5'' dingers or other 'knockoff'), large creatures (Christie critters, 8'' Kriet Tail lizards, etc.), and other heavy plastics.  I usually throw them weightless on 3/0 heavy wire EWG hooks.

It really comes down to how heavy the bait is.  I like a 7 to 7-6 rod, XF taper.  Power ratings are subjective, but a MH from most brands works.

Since most are posting what they use...I use an older 7' Fenwick Techna AV. If anything ever happened to that rod and after I stopped crying like a little girl I'd find another somewhere or just give up the whole thing.
