i just bought a g loomis imx from cabelas for 189 cause it was on sale, i needed a rod to pair up with my stradic ci4 plus, i needed a rod that was going to be really sensitive and lightweight. i preferably wanted a medium light action but i went and bought the imx that is a 6'6 medium rated 1/8-3/8. my question is, is this going to be long enough to throw a drop shot and shakey head? i just dont want to waste my time with it if its not worth using as a drop shot rod! PLEASE HELP!

yeah. its long enough.

what model of IMX did you get? 782?

It will be perfect for them, longer rods are deffinetly not a necessity.

It will be much more accurate than a longer rod and I use a 6'3" rod all the time. I go longer in 20'+ water but for short accurate casts and skips around cover, a 6'-6'6" rod is much better for me. I also like the shorter length better when working jerkbaits, soft jerkbaits, and topwater poppers and walkers as it's easier to get the rod movement I want without worrying about hitting the rod tip on stuff

You will love that rod. This spring my wife and I fished Dale Hollow and we were throwing 1/10 ounce Ned Rigs in 10 to 20 foot grass flats. We fish two G Loomis SJR 721s but threw grubs on a pair of SJR 722s. These are the 6 foot version with the same specs. You will love that rod. The average smallie we landed was 6 pounds and Linda actually landed a 6 1/2 pound catfish on her 721, a 1/16 to 5/16 rated rod.  I loved watching her run from the back deck to the front deck and back again for about 10 minutes! LOL  I regularly use my 722 for shakey heads and it will handle the dropshots as well.

I have a 6 foot Ugly Stik that I bang bass on all day and chunk a weightless fluke a got dang mile...stop putting so much thought into it...go out there and catch the fish and let them tell you if it's not long enough. My bet is...you yank one in and the bass says d**n I wish his pole was longer...or d**n I wish his pole was weak...it's a fish...catch it...don't let it catch you

Mind you...that 6 foot Ugly Stik is the only rod I have and I use it for every application good or not..better than nothing...just have fun

But on the other hand I have only one rod and 8 Lews speedspools......what a hypocrite
