Smallmouth pooping out a hook?

Featured Replies

Not to long ago I was river fishing with my friend and he caught a smallie that had a hook coming out of it's butt. Anyone else ever have this experience? I found it quite funny but reassuring that a swallowed Hook doesn't mean dead fish.

I have had that a couple of times.  My friend once caught a fish that was pooping out a Roboworm it had swiped from his hook on one of our previous trips

I've seen worm hooks, bait holder hooks, and even a jighead. Plenty of times I've seen entire crawdad pinchers as well.

I have seen many "different things" being excreted by bass I've caught, hooks, jigheads, plastics, etc..,....lol,. bass poop inspection, kind of a sh***y subject,..lmao

lol I probably could have made a better topic but I wanted to know how many other people have this happen. I've been catch odd stuff in the river eyes, missing back missing, tail missing.

I've caught a largemout with a small jig head coming out but the hook was caught up and the poor little guy was constipated. It had to be the fattest 13 incher I've ever caught.

Evidence that you should ALWAYS remove the hook!

Yea I can't remember the last time I left a hook in a bass. If it's gut hooked and I can't get it out using the gill plate trick , I carry a set of diagonal cutters and push the hook up and clip the barb. Then it slides right out no problem.

It amazes me how much disregard is shown in some "outdoorsman"

I used to have a long nosed pair of diagonals that I kept on the boat. They were unique, and I could get deep into a fish's mouth with them to snip the hook as close to the barb as possible, but they have disappeared. Guess Im going to have to search for another pair.

I'm forced to use needle nose with the gills. Usually whenever I fish for those I'm going to use them for catfish bait anyway.
