Becoming your parents

I've realized more and more lately I have become my parents more so my mother in a sense. All the things she used to yell at me for doing or things I did that annoyed/aggravated her now all are the things hat annoy and aggravate me and I find my self saying the same things to my kids as she did to me. Like the "stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about" the ever favorite "don't make me pull this car over". Then I used to always leave cupboard doors open in he kitchen and empty milk jugs or juice jugs in the fridge or the bags of just crumbs in the chips for snacks cupboard, used to drive my mom nuts now the kids do it to me and it drives me insane.

Anyone else

When your parents pass away, YOU become the "old people".

Even though I have loved my parents I tried to do with my kids a lot more than how we were raised.  (without going into detail)  In my house...yes's were yes and no....No.  For instance going into a store...if they acted up it was one warning....second correction we quietly left store and went home.   Not to much for putting up with BS.  Also took kids more places and did more camping, fishing, and participating in their activities.  They came out awesome...Praise God.  Was fortunate,

On the other end of that.  Paybacks are coming to my kids through their kids, and I just smile!

I can feel my father smiling down from heaven everytime my little heathen takes a tool I'm using or I step on one of his daggone hot wheels!

Or stepping on Lego's!  Those things feel like they've been sharpened when I step on them.

My old man was my best friend and fishing buddy he passed away 6 years ago.

He always was laid back but always seemed tired as well. I never knew why as I was too busy with my life that I just did not pay attention.

Since he has passed, anytime something breaks family and friends call me, anytime something needs built they call me, something needs moved, someone needs to go out have a beer and vent. I just never realized how many people depended on my dad even if it were for the littlest things.

When I was younger I would here strangers, friends and family tell me that I remind them so much of my father. It used to tick me off because I was a punk kid that knew everything in the world. I thought he was punishing me as a kid when a friends hot water tank would break and we would go sweat in new copper lines and hook up the new one, or put in a garbage disposal for the old lady down the road. Now I know that Dad was just training me to be a man and a kind one at that. Some of the greatest lessons that we learn we don't even know that we are being taught.

Now when someone says that I remind them of my dad, I get tears in my eyes and say thank you. That is the nicest thing that anyone can say to me.

Get off my lawn *shakes fist at nothing in particular in boxers and wifebeater*

Only thing that's keeping me from becoming my dad is the bald spot. :D

It would be an honor to become half the man my dad is.  But I'm pushing for 95%.  :)

I'm starting to watch football games with the volume turned off. Just like my old man. All that gabbing annoys me. Who cares how many times a team succeeded on 3rd and 9! Or how many passes a qb threw to a receiver on the left side of the field compared to the right side! Enough already, just let me watch the dang game!
