Rod Sleeves

Featured Replies

What size rod sleeves should I buy? Most of my rods are 7' and one 7'11". I've never considered any until now since I own some more expensive rods.

Typical rod sleeves are made from polyethylene in a woven design that keeps rod & line from tangling but does not offer much protection. The down side to the weave is when rod guides poke through & get caught in the web. The rod glove design made out of neoprene gives protection from banging rods together & keeps tangling to a minimum with no guides poking thru. Most guys want the sleeve/glove long enough to cover from the rod tip to the reel seat or foregrip. Most sleeves are about 6 foot long.

I prefer mine to cover the first eye but stop a foot or so ahead of reel seat to keep tangles with hooks down.

I prefer the colored nylon ones. When i reach in rod box i want to find what im looking for quick, so each color is a diffrent technique, ie... blue is crankbaits, green is frog, orange for jigs and so on.

I have just always used Cabelas rod sleeves. They are inexpensive and work very well on my 7'rods.  They are not so tight that they are hard to get them on and off.  Some of  mine are over 10 years old and going strong.  I also like that they can be adjusted for any length.

Rod sleeves are usually made from Nylon or Polyurethane monofilament line braided into a tubular sleeve that expands. 2 types of sleeves, one for bait casting smaller diamter and one for spinning rods larger diameter to accommodate spinning guides. Length about 12" shorter than you rod is OK or just use the longer sleeve.
