plano 3771 thin box review

Featured Replies

Hey guys just wanted to give a review of the Plano 3771 thin box I just got in the mail...yes I ordered it from tackle warehouse so no it wasn't free...At first glance man what an amazing idea 5 channels instead of four look at all the goodies I can store.  The latches are the good kind not molded directly on so the shouldn't wear out as fast as the old ones did.  I really like the cds system they used so u can basically make each individual slot the size u want which is why I ordered in on top of it being thinner and having 5channels. So there's the pros now the cons the outside is the same as a regular box as far as length and width but the inside is actually 3/16" smaller in width which really made the box useless for what I wanted it for on top of that the deviders are very thick and I shaped so u lose a lot of space there too.  The angle deviders are neat but I havnt used them yet.  My biggest complaint of all is since the box is so thin I personally don't think it should have the handle built into it but that's my complaint with all Plano boxes it's wasted space lots of times. Especially in this box since it has 5 channels making each one of them narrower then adding the handle makes for a very small compartment when done.....will I use this box yes is it the end all solution to most tackle storage solutions no.  And I really had high hopes for this box to be a newgreat jerkbait box well I guess it's back to the drawing board in search of that perfect storage container.

How would it work for terminal tackle? Will 5/0 EWG hooks fit? I have all my stuff in a regular 3700 box, but I could definitely use a thinner one if it will hold everything.

I have a half dozen of the Plano 3771 boxes.  I'm a fan.  Initially purchased them to maximize bait storage space for trips south of the border.  They worked very well by offering an organized space effective option; 6 of these will just about take the same space as 4 of the standard 3700 box.  Clearly, baits that are wider or thicker side to side, will not fit in these, but Baits like RES, jerkbaits, jigs and the like are all prime candidates.

I still use them today for both use in the tackle bag I fish with on the Old Town canoe I fish from; where again space in fairly limited and in the Lund Pro-V bass.  The Lund's Pop-Up Tackle system  integrated into the aft deck, hold 9 standard 3700 boxes, but will swallow 12 of the 3771 quite easily - That's a nice up grade right there.

I still use the standard 3700 for baits that need it (and there are plenty) but this one's a nice & viable option when looking for a thinner box.

YMMV

There is a decent gap between lid and compartments so smaller things will go every where I will however be picking up the 3600 size for weights ...  U may want to look at the new gamakatsu terminal box I havnt used one but the foam insert is def something worth checking into as far as the 5 ewg hooks fitting I'll give u the measurements of the width of each channel 1 15/16" and at handle it's 7\8" but that's just one small section of the whole box

Thank you, I'll definitely check out the gamakatsu box.
