Boat Insurance

Featured Replies

I currently own a 10ft flat bottom Jon Boat. Can a craft as small as this be insured. I mentioned insurance to my Girlfriend and she laughed. Insurance is in case S$@% happens(as Chris Rock would say). So what if I so happen to get into an accident out on the water and admit its my fault. I would need insurance to pay for the other persons craft...Correct. Or am I just looking into the whole insurance thing too much?

Does your boat have a gas motor or just an electric motor? Do you own your house live in an appartment? If you do and have either homeowners or renters insurance, they will probably cover you with liability insurance. This is based on that you have something like 25hp or less. I know for a fact that my homeowners insurance policy cover my butt with my boat, but check into it, because every policy is probably different.

By the way to answer you question,  Yes I would see no reason why you can't insure just your boat.

In my case Live_2_Fish is correct. My home owners insurance coverd me for damages to other's boats or people.  My boat is 25HP. I chose to purchase regular boat insurance to cover my boat incase of sinking, damage or theft. Just check your policy to see if you are coverd for liability.

My boat is covered on my home owners policy. Yes if your boat or your wake causes damage to another's property you are liable for the cost to repair or replace.
