Whopper Plopper 90 - Loon Or Yellow Head

Recommended Posts

I can't decide, which color do you own from these 2 or which would  you buy?

I haven't gotten to fish the Whopper Plopper yet, but I tend to keep topwater colors very simple, and they tend to produce very well for me.  I like having something very light (ex bone), dark (typically black), and something that mimics the natural forage (for me, that's typically alewives, perch, or immature bass).

Loon is one of the must have colors IMO.

Here is all you need :

*Loon : night fishing / low visibility

*Bone , Powder or I Know It : sunny day / higher visibility

*Monkey Butt , Terminator : clear water , sunny day

*While the above colors are solid choices to cover all conditions - don't be afraid to experiment with Loon , Bone , Powder or I Know It in different light / water conditions . The Monkey Butt and Terminator though are pretty much a clear water / higher visibility deal being that they are semi - see through / transparent .

I've yet to buy one, but my first will be loon.  My son had a Chug Bug that was black and white, a lot like the loon pattern, it was an absolute killer for smallmouths.

Loon, as it is a great dingy water color, and when I was looking for a Musky color on a N. WI clear water lake, Loon was again recommended. Granted loons are all over that lake, so I was just matching the hatch;)

The whopper plopper 90 is a bait I'm looking forward to fish this year. Over the winter I was given one and bought two of them. Perch, bluegill and the black loon if that is what it's called. One of the very few new things I'm trying on the Delaware River this year. I my opinion how I'm gonna fish it color is not the most important thing. Hope it works well. Looking forward to using mine.

Loon was the first color I ordered. If I were buying only one, that would be the color. After that I bought bone, and then bluegill.

As an aside, I would also recommend getting the 130 instead of the 90, as the bigger bait seems to run more true and the smaller fish will nail it too.

I'm a newbe with it. I thought the 90 would fall in line with the smallies. A few of you guys had mentioned the 130 is the size to go with and may actually run better. I found this out after. I feel optimistic about the 90's though.

There are are a few musky breeds where I fish. I like those hook ups a well.

Everyone says Loon but I have yet to catch anything on it.  My best colors have been Blue Blood and Perch.  I fish primarily the 90 but have not caught anything on a 130 yet.

I have been successful with Loon, Bone, and Monkey Butt.  My buddy only uses Loon and he is super successful.

Maybe they'll come out with an actual size in Loon!

I got a 90 in loon, a 130 in Know It, and a 190 in Fire Tiger.  The 190 is for musky fishing.

Loon followed by bone.  130 is my preferred size.
