Width for a console in a aluminum boat

Featured Replies

Well i see that a larger boat is in order, the misses scares me trying to dodge me going from the front of the boat to the back. Here is my dilema,i am looking for a aluminum boat no more than 16' long,i have looked at the tex special by alumacraft, lowes stinger 160,and tritons 163 model. The problem with the lowe is that it is only sold with a merc 4stroke and i'd rather use the 2 stroke yammi 50hp,i think triton is the same as lowe on motor choice. Now here is my next choice.,i can buy a aluminum v hull jon with a solid floor like a roughneck 1652 or a alumacraft 1650 but what width is big enough to have a side console installed? Is 48" boat widths too narrow for a console to be installed? :-/

weight is also a consern for smaller waters but i don't want it hurting me in bigger waters.

Can your order the boat with out a motor? When I bought my crestliner I just got boat and trailer. I already had a motor for it. Also, do you need a console? I have a 16' tiller for the reason you stated a console takes up to much room.

Just a reminder, If you are buying new boat motor, remember they cannot sell the old two stroke new. since Jan 2006 all new motors sold must be 4 stoke or "clean" two stroke (ex. Optimax, Etech)

Hate to drunge this back up though. The answer to the last responce, yamaha

still makes several two strokes a 25 and 50 i know of.

Now,the question again after i have gone and looked at several 15' 48" wide boats

the console looks small enogh not to take up much room, the second question though

most of these 1548's are rated for a max of 25 hp engine which yamaha makes a

electric start 20" shaft 25.Will it run well on this motor and what speeds should i see with

this setup. The reason i am still shying away from the 16' is that i still fish

two lakes that are 100 acres and the ramps are a real pain,i cannot back far enough

into the water to hardly unload it,a heavier boat will be that much more difficult

to PUSH off the trailer, but then again will i benefit going from a 1436 to a 1548 on larger

waters?I have narrowed it down to a g3 or the war eagle, alumacraft nor roughneck build

anything other than a 1650,1652,but the g3 has a 15" transom... :-/ :'( :-[

I fish Southwest Louisiana marshes where the average water depth is only 2'; I also fish Toledo Bend Reservoir In the marshes all that is allowed is a 25 hp maximum, I've learned how to fish both out of the same boat.

The wider the bottom width the more stable your boat will be at rest, the wider the beam the drier your ride will be. I personally prefer a modified V bottom over a flat; this will give you a smoother ride & faster hole shot. The faster the hole shot the shallow water you'll be able to get up on plane.

The speed with Yamaha 25hp 2/stroke on a 1548 will depend on how it's propped, setup, and weight you put in the boat, 25 to 30 mph can be easily obtainable.
