2nd Fish Finder Question

Featured Replies

My Nitro 750 has a console mounted fish finder with the transducer mounted in the stern. I would like to mount a 2nd fish finder on my trolling motor and mount screen on the bow somewhere where I can see it when I am trolling.

I have some questions about this:

1) Should I use the battery power from the trolling motor batteries or from the motor battery?

2) Will the electrical emissions from the trolling motor affect the tranduscer if I mount the transducer on the motor?

3) Will I have to turn the fish finder off when pulling the trolling motor back up into the boat? In other words will the finder or transducer be harmed if the unit is not turned off before pulling the motor out of the water?

4) Do you have a better recommendation for a place to put the bow mounted transducer other than on the trolling motor?

Thank you,

Tom

From the motor battery.

It may or it may not.  Newer setups are pretty trouble-free.

I seldom turn mine off when running from one spot to another.  It hasn't hurt my unit at all.

4) Do you have a better recommendation for a place to put the bow mounted transducer other than on the trolling motor?

Nope.

Couldn't have said it better jdw.

Tom, If you look at the top of your screen there is a section called Fishing Articles. Go down to the Bass Boat section. Then click on "Installing new electronics. I found this short read very helpful when I added another finder in the front of my boat. It has a couple good tips about running your tranducer cable up the shaft of your trolling motor etc etc.
