Tracker 40th ani. Heritage edition boat

Recommended Posts

The only thing I don’t like is the 9 gal live well wish they would have gone into the front platform a little to increase the size. I’ll make it work though.

Already bought spare tire, but have been looking at different carriers to mount it.Then I noticed in a couple of pics of boat and trailer that there is a small rack on starboard side of trailer, maybe to hold spare?you can see it on heritageboat.com slide 30

Yeah, I saw that too.  Seems like its there for a spare in my opinion.  I hope so anyway.

That's definitely a spare tire bracket.

Is so great to see how many new people will be out on the water with their families, friends or solo with this boat.  Hoping veterans will be patient with them on the water but also that the new boat owners will listen and learn from those veterans to help make everyone's time on the water memorable in a good way.  I will be one of the new guys with a boat that actually has an outboard … so much learning to be had upgrading from my 11.3 Bass Tender.  Fish on and tight lines everyone.

This Heritage will be my first boat, and can't wait to get it!   I've fished with friends for years, and have often backed up their boat trailers; however, I have never trailered a boat from the water.  Count me as a novice when it comes to boating.   So....I am taking a Boater Education class this Saturday 2/17.  The class is put on by the LA State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and is a free service.    In addition to learning the valuable dos and don't of being on the water, the completion of this course will lower my boat insurance premium!   I already spoke with my insurance rep about it.   Following is a brief description of the class from the LDWF website...my guess is all states would have something like this.....

"The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries offers a free boating course that lasts between 6 and 8 hours. Participants usually complete the course in one day.

The course includes information on choosing a boat, classification, hulls, motors, legal and equipment requirements, navigation rules, navigation charts, trailering, sailboats, and related subjects that include canoeing, personal watercraft and more. Participants who complete the course will receive a Boater Education Card.

View of copy of Louisiana's Boater Education Handbook online."

There is also a free online course that my insurance will accept......again, from the LDWF website FAQ.....

"How do I register for an approved online course?"

"If a classroom course is not convenient for you, you may take an LDWF-approved online boating course provided by BoatUS.org or Boat-Ed.com. LDWF does not administer these courses but has approved them to satisfy boating education requirements. The BoatUS.org course is free; there is a fee for the Boat-Ed.com course. Upon successful completion of either course, you will receive a temporary Boater Education Certificate from the website. You will be issued a permanent Boater Education Card approximately three to four weeks later. For more information, visit www.boatus.org or www.boat-ed.com."

Happy Boating/Fishing and Best Wishes To All!

A few days after ordering the boat I took an online course.  I got my card a few weeks ago.  All I need is the boat to tell my insurance about taking the course.

So while I wait, I've been kicking around a few ideas.  Since it only has an RPM gauge, anyone thinking about putting in anymore gauges?   From what I've read, speedometers are almost a waste of time.  They clog and end up unusable after awhile, don't know. What about an hour meter or volt meter?  These look like they might be a good match.

On My 2017 Pro-160 I have the crappy RPM gauge which only sometimes works. I just use my GPS to determine Speed. As far as voltage; I use my electronics to show me crankin' battery voltage and I am having a voltage gauge installed on the console for the deep cycle battery; it's going to cost me about $100-$125 to have installed.

Wow, your having trouble with your RPM gauge?  Have you considered taking it back in?  I would think that should be covered under warranty.  I'm not convinced that the Heritage gauge is a OEM Mercury part.  Using the Tracker stock photos, I can't find the exact replacement.

Anyhow, the few gauges I'm looking at are I think, reasonably priced, doing the install myself.  I know you can get the crank voltage from your fish finder, and speed from your phone.  I'm not sure what to do.

Right now I have too much time, and too many ideas about what I might want to do with my new boat.  It's been killing me, but I'm not buying anything until after I get the boat.  I figure that way I'll have a better idea of what I want/need.

I think a lot of people have issues with that tach. If you look at the promotional photos it's sitting on about 700-1k rpm without the motor running. If you read posts on tracker/mako boats with this set up a lot of folks complain about the tach.

For a full range of gauges, if you have a Mercury outboard you should checkout "Vessel View Mobile". For $275 you get a module you attach to the engine which transmits a wealth of data from the engine to your smartphone or tablet.

https://www.mercurymarine.com/en/us/news/announcing-vesselview-mobile-now-available/

  • See SmartCraft® engine parameters like Engine hours, fuel burn, water temperature, battery voltage, RPM, etc. (parameters available are specific to each engine family).*
  • Get fault code diagnostic information so you know and understand if that fault is something to be addressed when you return to the dock, or is more urgent.*
  • Fuel Management provides accurate fuel usage data along with fuel remaining plus indicate time and distance to empty when the user enters fuel added via the app.

Just got back from BPS for the Spring Fishing Clash fishing specials. The heritage trailer is 17 1/2" at the top of the ball for a level trailer. Now all I need is for mine to come in...

Just pulled the trigger today (2/16). The waiting list is very long. The salesman said it will be June before it will come in unless someone else cancels their order and mine gets bumped up the list. At least I'll have good weather to break her in.
