Skunked. But, I did go.

Recommended Posts

Went out for a couple hours today and threw a worm. One strike, on my second cast. Lost three inches of my four inch worm. The other inch had a hook in it. Enjoyed just going.

Today was the nicest weather day we've had since the end of the year. Had 1/2 hour to fish between stops , at a familiar lake 6 miles or so from home. Same result as pond fisher. 1 bite and I swung and missed. Really peaceful little break anyway.

Thankful for it!

Went to my local lake last week twice when we had some warm weather. Both times spent about three hours, not a bite !!!!!   Water surface temp was 41*.  Come on spring. :D

Do you mind defining your tackle and presentation?

I always feel like getting skunked is still less disappointing than if I didn't go fishing to begin with.  Just getting out and giving it a shot is worth the effort, regardless.

Here we had a "bomb cyclone" put us in a deep freeze for a few weeks. Now today was 50 degrees and raining. Another deep-freeze coming this weekend.  I won't be casting into liquid water for few months yet. Meanwhile, I'm buried at work. I'm pitching jigs into the snow in my backyard in my free time.

So I'm envious, despite the skunk!

I've been getting skunked recently as well. Last two fish I caught were under 10 inches and that was during the recent cold spell. Catching fish is only half the experience for me, the other half is just getting out there and hearing the whiz of the reel. Still sucks not to catch fish though

Nice going anyway! Your water isn't frozen, and you are getting bites.

I used several 4" plastics. 4" power worm, super fluke, Yomamoto craw, Tube, slider worm, and Zoom lizard. Split shotting and Slider head.

You tackle is spinning? The above defines the lures you use.

The reason I ask is bass rarely bite off soft plastics, the rough them up but usually don't bite the tail end while you set the hook tearing the worm off at the hook.

I suggest that you try a slip shot rig in lieu of the split shot to increase strike detection, no weight for the bass to feel. Also suggest using a Lght wire hook like 5133 size 1/0 Owner hook. The lighter weight hook lets the 4"-5" finesse worms float or suspend tail up off the bottom. Roboworms 4 1/2" curl tail is an excellent split/slip shot worm in oxblood/red flake and Aaron's Magic in the colder water periods. The 4" finesse Power worms are good.
