trailer tire suggestions

Recommended Posts

I'm curious as to what trailer tire you guys have found to be the best. Right now my trailer has Marathons. Although these goodyear tires have good handling and traction, there's irregular wear after two years.

Irregular wear could be caused by other issues than just bad tires.

Shortly before I put the boat away for the winter I replaced my 5 year old Marathons with the new Goodyear Endurance tires. Don't have much time on them but so far I like them.

What he said. Bearings, tire pressure, axle alignment

Keep in mind that tires on a tandem axle trailer will wear faster than tires on a single axle trailer.  Every time you turn, particularly when making tight turns, the tires will scrub.

It's why you can easily "steer" a single axle trailer by hand to stow it in tight places.  A tandem axle trailer resists movement of the tongue from side to side.

After three years, the tires on my single axle trailer showed hardly any wear.  The tires on my tandem axle trailer needed to be replaced after three years.  Both boats were bought new, and travel mileage on the trailers averaged about the same per year.

I tried the Endurance tires last summer. They’ve been good to me. I found them online and showed the price at Discount Tire, and they matched it.

I did a lot of digging around on this subject when the Goodyears on my trailer started showing signs of wear after three seasons.

I went with Kumho 857 tires

They are not cheap.

They are radials, they are heavy duty and have a "Q" speed rating, something few trailer tires have.  Two seasons in them and they are doing great.

I need to replace my tires. Anyone have experience with the Maxxis M8008s?
