Muddy water favorite

Featured Replies

I've heard fish slow and throw dark baits in muddy water.  Others say loud and dark.  What is your favorite for muddy water?

I prefer a loud or water displacing bait in muddy conditions.(rattles/large Colorado blade) for example. But retrieve speed will always be dictated by water temp and bass activity levels more so than clarity.

I fish slow in muddy water, bait color doesn't matter as much as where you put it. Around me the fish hold tight to the cover in muddy water. Find some trash and pick it apart. That's what I did this morning with a brush hog.

My favorite bait's for muddy water and I mean 1 inch visibility is a black jig orange trailer and chartreuse spinnerbait that produce lots of thump .

I go for extreme darks or extreme bright and flash with lots of vibration.  Also fish tight to cover as mentioned before, the fish hold close to structure in muddy water.   I go for a black trick worm fished close to laydowns, a chartreuse crankbait or spinnerbait, and gold/silver RattleTrap/lipless in muddy water.  If water temp is warm, I like to fish fast to create more commotion.

Loud thumping chatterbait or big colorado blades on spinner, I also like scent but no idea if really works. I like short quicks hops then let sit. Fish close to structure cover, punch matts on edges good in hot weather.

I got a bite today on a white rage blade in very murky water (always is here), but due to the wind (that never stops) by the time I realized I had a bite I was too late to set it. Hard to watch line when it's getting blown all over the place lol. I need to find something that works with wind.

For muddy water I like the Z-Man Jack Hammer Green Pumpkin 1/2oz. It gives off loud thump, hence name Jack Hammer"...you don't need to match trailer to color.

Zmans are my favorite, I also like their Freedom for real shallow water and their Project Z's. Look at their selection and find whats suits your conditions best.

I have a project Z... never seen any other ones available in store aside from the weedless or finesse one. The Jack Hammer (looking online) looks like the project Z one to me, just with a nicer head, color scheme, and snap on it. What's the difference in design?

I like to use jigs and spinnerbaits in murky water, or wide wobbling shallow cranks in bright colors. A black blue jig and heavy thumping trailer is great when fished in thick cover. Tight to cover is crucial in murky water. A double colorado spinnerbait works great too.
