1983 15hp Evinrude No Spark

Featured Replies

Hey all,

My motor quit running the other day and after diagnosing I found that it was not getting any spark from either plug.  Bought a new stator and replaced that, but still no spark.  Other options were the sensor or may be the power pack.  All the wiring looks fine.  Disconnected the kill switch and still nothing.  Anyone out there got any thoughts??

Mine gave me fits when a key broke on the flywheel. It put it out of time and acted like it was not getting fire. Cost me about 40 cents and a lot of head scratching.

You said you bypassed the kill swich but you need to disconnect the kill wire back on the motor to make sure it's not shorting out.  OMC motors ground out the ignition to cut the motor off.   I don't have a manual on those small motors and haven't worked on one the twenty years so can't give you much advise on trouble shooting.  I think they have a CDC pack and if the kill wire is not grounding out, you may have a bad CDC pack.

i've got the troubleshooting manual if you give me your email.  its about a 2mb file.
