Question on aqua views and simular

Recommended Posts

As the question states I am looking for some fresh info from those who have or have used an aqua view or simular and what you may recommend.  My son would like one and I'm going to help.  Think the grand kids would love it.  Thank you

I recently had a Marcum camera which is similar. I primarily used it ice fishing but took it in the boat a few times when I first got it. Either one, aquavu or Marcum have great pictures. They really do give you a good underwater view and kids LOVE watching fish on them. You won't go wrong with either brand. They do take up space and they do take time to set up and time away from fishing which is why I sold mine. Also they only work well in clear to semi clear water. I think they are great for kids but just wanted to add a couple things to consider before you buy.

My wife had gotten me an inexpensive one at one time....cannot remember the brand.  Would take an hour of most every trip just looking while the other guy was fishing in front and then we would trade....was awesome.  Would love to use a better camera.

Let me first state I have never been seasick a day in my life and I have been in some rough stuff multiple times including 14 hours on the ocean in rough seas and a relatively small boat.  My buddy brought out his Aqua View on Lake St Clair one year and as I sat and watched the screen in a mildly rocking bass boat....I thought I was gonna hurl.  Got dizzy and nauseous after about 10 minutes.

I have had one for the last 16 - 17 years. First I had one of the big original clunky units. Now I have the 5" screen hand held unit with a built in DVR. Clear water is really a must unless you just want to drop it to the bottom to examine bottom composition. While it has helped me catch fish the real benefit is what is adds to your knowledge of the underwater environment.  I would imagine kids who are interested in the outdoors would be fascinated by it. It can be a time bandit and it can be difficult to keep what you want to view in front of the camera. You drop that camera down and the next thing you know 45 minutes of fishing time has gotten away from you. If it does not break the bank get one with a DVR. Frequently I see things while watching the video later that I did not pick up on the water. I have some video at home that I will add to this thread later.

I have an Aqua view, while it does take away time from actual fishing, it is fun to play with.

I think kids will enjoy it, not only to see fish, turtles, etc., but to find lost treasures. I have found lures, fishing rods, anchors.....but no bodies, yet :-)

On that lake the hydrilla will get down to 17 - 18 feet deep in the summer. Very clear water there.
