Jon Boat storage with year round access

Featured Replies

I currently live in a townhouse where the HOA is insanelt strict.  So storage in the parking lot is out and I don't have a garage.  I've looked into storage facilities but a 20'X10" or 30'X10' storage without electricity and climate control is between $200 and $300 per month.  I've even gone as far as calling marinas in the area to see what they offer.

Maybe it's me but every Marina I have called refuse to answer the phone.  I've tried the 3 in my area for a week now and haven't once gotten a live person.  I've even left messages with no returns.

Basically I am looking for any ideas or experience to store a 16' jon boat that I am adding decking to over the colder months so when pre-spawn hits I'm ready to go.  Does anyone know if Marinas offer that type of storage that I can get to to work on it or not?

I live in the Harford County Maryland area.  The local reservoirs offer a chain to lock it to but after the work is done I would be worried about anyone and their brother having access.

Thanks in advance.

Does it have to be stored inside?  Most storage areas have outside areas that people park RVs and boats, just cover it with a cover and tie it down good.  It has to be less expensive.   just a thought

I keep mine at the lake for an extra 40 bucks they put them all in a shed. Since you can't do that why don't you take the cahin lock provided and then also put your own lock on it? Is the permissible?

Them marinas are tough some times and when they don't have any space they don't offer to much in the way of help.

You don't really need a climate control storage space, but i would stick with in doors if ya can find one

Like LBH said,  If ya gotta buddy that don't live in one of those #@$% HOA area see if he will rent you a little space at his home to store the boat.

I found a metal factory less then 2 miles from my house with a fenced in parking lot with barbed wire on top.  My only concern is that I was planning on making a reservoir rig so I would need power to recharge the batteries.  I can always bring them home to recharge them and then transport on the days I fish but now I'm hearing batteries can't be charged on cement?  Up hill battle in front of me but I want it bad enough so I'll find a way.

Anyone else heard the cement and battery thing before?

Cement and batteries?  That's a load of bull.  If it bothers you, put a piece of cardboard under the battery.  It will be a waste of time, but if it makes you feel better ...

Hey I've heard a version of this, it's that the cement just takes the power from the battery. I pulled this off the web

"You may have heard the story that a battery sitting on cement will discharge very quickly, and so it's best to store it on wood. This is no longer true, but once was when battery case materials were actually porous enough to enable discharge through damp cement."

Used to be true - wives tale now.  But, it is probably better, even now, to put a board under it, as the concrete is gonna be much colder than the wood, and that supposedly is worse for charging it.  Sounds like bull to me.

BTW, my batteries are stored on a board, on top of the concrete.  I may be a youngun, but I still am rather old school.
