Talons / power poles / anchors

Recommended Posts

Personally, I wouldn't use it on anything bigger than a tin 17 footer.  There are plenty of manual style of stakes you can use as well.  They've been using them for years in Florida where shallow fishing is the norm.  Power pole is based in Florida and just expanded the application to bigger bass boats.  Ideally, the "driver" style is great on yaks where you don't have the ability to hand drive a stake into the water and to also store the stake when not in use.

The HD Spike can be used as a stand-alone stake as well.  The micro-driver is not designed for use on full-sized fiberglass bass boats.  That's where the Power-Poles come into play.

The problem with power poles is that one doesn't really work too well. You will spin around and it is a little inconvenient. They are extremely expensive, though.

I ran one Talon for a long time and then one Powerpole for a long time.  One works just fine, you just have to do a little prior planning to account for wind/current direction before you deploy it.  Two is the bomb but of course that's a pretty steep investment to make.

They are a no-brainer purchase here in Florida where deep water is considered anything over 6 feet.  You use them constantly as you're usually fishing in water that is plenty shallow enough for them to deploy.  I see the OP is from Minnesota though so I would say consider strongly how much you fish in shallow water before you drop the money on them.

Anyone who says they are not worth the money or are not useful has never had them.

I have one 12 foot talon and I wouldn't say that they are the "end all be all" of all bass fishing equipment.  So I am definitely one of those people that could refute your statement based on owning and using one for 3 full seasons now.

Never said they were the end all be all of anything. I said they were useful and worth the money. But to me, fishing mainly all shallow water here in FL they are the best thing I've done to MY boat.

You said anyone that says they aren't useful or not worth the money has never owned one.

I'm one of those people so you initial statement is inaccurate.  I OWN one and I disagree with your initial post.
