In one of my other threads I asked about rod length for topwater baits.I got some good responses on this. What about super large topwater baits. The biggest I throw now are zara spooks and muskie jitterbugs. Does anyone fish larger topwater(muskie size) and have success with this? What is you tackle setup, and what are your favorite BIG topwater?

I throw 6" G2 Punker on a custom built on a St. Croix SCIV79HF.  It's 1.9 oz., rod is rated 1-4.

I've thrown my 6" Punker on my 7'11" HF punching rod, rated up to 2oz.  Not quite like walking a spook, but I find it better than getting separate rod for such a narrow part of my game.

The biggest I throw is really a wakebait, the SPRO Rat 40. It's 1 oz. But I fish it just walking on the surface. It gets more bites that way. When I plan ahead I move up to the MH 7' stick that I usually use for jigs/worms. But when it's an after thought, I use my lipless crank/topwater 6-6 M M/F stick.

I throw topwaters of that size on a 7’ mh/f comfortably

i love fishing big topwaters. my biggest is 15 inches, its a snake wake bait.  i fish spooks up to 8 inches, jitterbugs to 8inches and wakes up to 10inches. i have a few different setups, a shimano muskie rod is a broom stick great for launching big heavy baits far, i love my dobyns 806 champion series, its great all around rod for smaller 6- 7inch topwater to bigger heavy stuff like my 15 inch snake. i got a  skeet reese flippin stick. 8 foot lures 1-4, it throws  my fishin magician skid stick 8 inch far and walks with ease. its another good setup for smaller baits

Biggest topwater I throw is a 9" MS Slammer, I use a Dobyns Fury 795, Diawa Tatula HD200 Reel with 20lb P-Line PF Original and it works great!

Love my champion 806.  The Matt lures meat head is like 8 inches and over 4 ounces.  For smaller stuff like my 5" wood punker and spro rats I use my 74hf st croix.  I am in my first year of truly large baits but I do have a 4 on the meathead, and plan to wear them out this year.

I also throw my 6" Punker on similar gear.

8" wooded Lunker Punker and 9" Pupfish are the 2 largest top water lures I use.

I have an older 7'10" Okuma Guide Spl 1-5 oz that works good for these lures and use 25 lb Sunline Defier Armilo Nylon line and 300 Cardiff A reel.

Tom

PS, I see the OP fishes smaller lakes, if you fish where stripe bass or big musky and Pike, they will eat a big top water lure so be prepared.

My favorite big topwaters are the ones I make myself and its worth all the trouble hand making lures when you catch a good sized fish.
