MO Wentzville\Warrenton lakes

Featured Replies

Will be visiting MO soon around the Warrenton\Jonesburge MO area.  Looking to see if there are any lakes close by that I can go to for a few hours early morning or evening.  Not interested in St Louis urban lakes.  I am familiar with Cuvier River and Bush Wildlife, just wasn't sure if there are any others.  Any info on Eagle Lake reservoir in Montgomery county?

Thanks

There are a lot of good subdivision and gold course lakes if you have access. Otherwise, have you tried the Ozark Anglers forum? Its pretty Missouri centric

If you go a little further up 61 past Troy there is White Memorial Wildlife  Area, William R. Logan Conservation Area and 2 lakes in Bowling Green. Also close Warrenton is Reifsnider State Forrest has a couple small clay pits with bass in them.

Thanks.  I found Reifsnider.  Looked good but didnt fish it.  We did find Whetriver Conservation area in Williamsvile with several lakes and ponds with one very large lake. I did get a few small bass from the there.  Will be back up late summer and will check out some of the other areas as well.  Thanks!

I'm just curious, why lakes? You're literally at the northern end of smallie heaven as far as I'm concerned...I'd never fish a lake with the exception of flood level waters if I lived there.

I didn't have access to light rods or fly rods.  Also no boat.  Can you wade the rivers that are close or good shoreline access?  The ones I know of are about 1-2 hrs south.  I'm getting some cheap light setups and will just keep up there for when I visit.  Mostly looking for something close that I can run out to for a few hours either in the morning or evening.

Also, my previous post had errors.   Should have said Whetstone Creek wildlife area in Williamsville.

Not really much close to St. Louis that is decent unless you are going smallie fishing on the Bourbouse, Meramec or Big rivers. All the good larger bodies of water are all either private or a few hours from town.

You really don't need light setups or fly rods for smallmouth fishing in our rivers, unless the fish are being super finicky that is

If you want to drive 100 miles   there is Hunnewell lake . They have complimentary 14 foot jon boats . If you can get hold  of a battery and elec motor , its a lake with the possibility to catch 70 plus bass and maybe a lunker .
