Old Town Predator yak

Featured Replies

Been fishing on the banks and want to get out ON the water. A bass boat is out for now but a kayak is feasible. I was looking at the old town predator with the Minn Kota motor. What are the thoughts and opinions of it? I am a big guy and will be taking it on the lakes and rivers here in Florida.

When I was in the market for a fishing kayak, I was settled on the OTP too, and ultimately wanted to get the PDL over the MK. Advantage of the MK is that you'll get to your fishing spots faster probably, but the downside is...you're limited to the amount of battery then you're paddling if you run out. I wish the console for the PDL and MK were interchangeable, but they're not so once you choose, you're stuck.

Ultimately, I ended up buying a 14' used bass boat and trailer (garage kept 1986 Bomber Scout 50hp) with a new Garmin Echomap 7cv for the same price as the PDL. But I will still get a kayak at some point.

Unfortunately I dont have the ability to tow a boat. I will have to car top the kayak. The OTP unloaded is right at the limit for my SUV.

We had one for a while, it was my daughter's and while the motor was great, it was a bigger kayak than she wanted to deal with.

It handled NW WI water (big lakes, small lakes, pretty big rivers) just fine.
