I have a 1year old Shimano Curado and even if i tighten the brake as much as i possibly can i can still pull on the line and it comes out fairly easily, how can i fix this?

Thanks!!

Brake, spool tension or drag? What line and backing do you have on it?

Have you...or someone that is not a reel tech...had the reel apart?

EDIT:  I asked because I received an expensive reel (when new, I bought used), that I couldn't even spool line on.  The drag had been changed to something inferior and there were 2 parts missing in the reel.  I also had a used reel that locked up after about a half hour's use.  Someone didn't get a spring attached correctly and it wound up destroying the gears.  Both reels kick butt now, tho.  :D

If you mean like the drag, then I can relate. My curado 101d is like that. Even on its tightest setting, I there is little resistance and it was like that since I got it a few years ago already.  I've been meaning to send it to DVT for a drag upgrade, but life gets in the way, and it hasn't been used much.

More than likely you have left your drag sit in a tightened/locked position for so long that is has damaged/crushed the drag washers. This is why it is important to back the drag off on any baitcasting reel when it is not in use (regardless of company).

Or, if it has been taken down the drag springs may be back in like this ))or ((  instead of like this ().

Could braid slipping on the spool, too.

I did this on an old Shimano...got the drag springs like )), instead of ().

Also tied braid directly to the spool...and it slipped. Now I run some mono on first...then tie on braid.

Hope this helps!

Test to see if braid is slipping on the spool.

Tie line to solid object.  Walk back and take line out of spool until part of the side of the spool is visible.  Press hard on the side of the spool with a finger and pull.  If the braid turns and the spool doesn't because you are holding it, braid is slipping and you have to respool.
