I did not like the KVD line of reels too much. But I do love the Exos I have. I have tried the older Smoke and enjoyed using those. I want to pick up the new S3 Smoke to give it a try just haven't yet. I do agree their marketing seems to be subpar to the rest. Looking at ICast they must pay the GMan more than KVD now since Kevin was nowhere in sight at the Quantum booth and GMan was everywhere.

Years ago, I bought two CHEAP Quantum spinning combos for a trip.  (Probably paid about $40 for each.)

One of the rods broke in a week and one of the reels crapped out in less than a month (of pretty heavy use.)

That experience soured me on the entire Quantum line. (I had similar experience with very cheap Daiwa reel long ago.)

Sux for the companies, but that's how impressions can be made.

Year later, I fell into a crazy deal for a Smoke 100PT - less than half of MSRP.  It is my favorite reel, and I've since bought 3 others.

Now...I'm not entirely sure what price tiers these reels fall for comparison.  I think the initial MSRP was $199.  I didn't pay over $100 for any of them.  They're far better than any other reel that I've bought for under $150.  But are they as good or better than other reels that MSRP around $200?....not at all sure.

Quantum at the time seemed one of the great marketing and innovative companies in the fishing world.

I remember those days. I bought one of the first snapshot reels they made with the firing pin for one handed operation of a spinning reel.

Still had it up until a few years ago, meanwhile my son purchased the modern version of it for $19 The thing fell apart on his first trip out with it.

Just caught this thread, and was curious if any one knows about the quality of the new Accurists. I have 3 that are 15 plus years old that have been solid. Workhorse reels for me over that time. Was looking to pick up another 100 dollar reel for Christmas and the new accurists are on my list to research.

I used to fish a bunch of Quantums.  I was really into the old flashy Energy and Tour PTs because they just looked cool.  I had a few of the next gen Energies after those and then the gen 1 Smoke.  I also had a bunch of older rods: Tours, Superlites, and gen 1 smokes.  I had a few issues with the reels but nothing too major.  Overall, the stuff I had was fine.  None of it blew me away so I jumped on the Daiwa and Shimano train and got rid of the Quantum stuff.  None of their new offerings have really intrigued me though.  I feel like their stuff is pretty boring.  If they bring back the old Energy color scheme and put it into a nice compact, modern design, I might be lured back.

I use a ton of Quantum. Actually pretty much all I have 18 smoke reels and 28 smoke rods. All work fine.

Never used a Quantum reel.  I do have a couple Tour Edition and Superlite rods.  Personally I like them.

Quantum = Lindsey Lohan.  A while ago they were hot and everyone wanted them.  Now they seem sad and crazy.

The work just fine, just too many QC issues.

I agree, I’ve had one on a frogging rod for the last couple of years and it’s been a dream to cast, and a real workhorse with 50lb braid to muscle largies in. I’ve had lots of different quantum stuff over the years and it’s always done well for me.

I owned two Quantum products back in the late 80s, a baitcaster and a spinning rod, none lasted more than a year so no more Quantum for me never again.

I've had good luck with Quantum myself. Had several of the PT Series and they performed great. Only reason I sold them was because so many newer reels like Lews were smaller\lighter. I wonder how many ppl who've had bad luck with Quantum have been the higher end stuff VS the lower end stuff like the Escalade sold at Dicks?

This would have saved one of reels. I guess if I would have looked, it would have been an easy fix. I had this happen just after one year of use.

My 1st low profile was a 1st gen Accurist and I loved it at the time.  Mainly because I didn't know any better.  I purchased an Energy and later an Energy PT and they fell apart.  Much later I picked up the white Accurist PT and it was an OK reel for $100 but not good.  I wish I would have kept the original Accurist for sentimental value.

Quantums are Banax reels and so are Okumas.  If I wanted a Banax I'd probably buy an Okuma or Tail Walk over a Quantum.  It seems like the platforms they are buying are better liked than the Quantum reels.  Maybe the new S3 reels will change that.

The Energy PT baitcasters are great reels. I have an older EX500 that is probably 20 years old and it is amazing how many miles of cranking a lipless it has on it. It is nothing close to as smooth as todays reels are, but it has never missed a beat. By far the toughest reel other than an older ABU 5500 that I have ever seen.

I fish a bunch of Quantum Rods & Reels and have been for a really long time.

They are just terrible, I mean they could not possibly be any worse.

Nuts & bolts falling off all over the place.

Springs popping out left & right.

Rod Guides melting in the sun.

Backlashes Every Single Cast.

Foam Grips Bursting into flames.

It's a mess !

And yet, I still manage to catch a few.

I have used Quantum reels in the past. I bought my son a Smoke spinning reel a few years ago and he is completely happy with it (and he can be very critical). I own a Quantum spinning reel that I occasionally use, although I prefer my Shimanos. That should be no surprise since I paid more for the Shimanos. My experience with Quantum has been mixed. Not a big fan of the KVD series baitcasters but for the money I liked the old Iron series reels when they first came out. Have not tried any of those in the last 10 years. I generally prefer to spend my money on Shimano or Lew's as those brands seem to perform consistently and hold up well. YMMV
