Can anyone recommend a good pair of cutters for cutting hooks? I want to keep a pair in the boat just in case someone gets hooked. I know about the method to get hooks out if the bard is embedded, but I want to be able to cut the hook if it goes all the way through

I use Klein electricians diagonal cutters or some call dykes. I have used them to cut hooks I got stuck with several times.

I have these from Amazon. They are compound side cutters which easily cut thicker hooks. They are made from regular steel so I keep them in an oiled cloth in it's own Plano stowaway waterproof utility box of the appropriate size.

These might be a little awkward to use if you're by yourself

I never go fishing without a set of high torque dykes. Its the one tool I hope I never need. So far I haven't been stabbed with a hook and hopefully I keep it that way.

I always just use one of my Leathermans.

They'll cut through an Owner Beast Hook no problem. Overkill? Maybe. But if I'm 2 miles from the ramp in my kayak with a 10/0 hook in my hand I want overkill.

If you’ve got an electrician buddy, he’s probably got about a dozen pairs laying around he’s “blown up”. Still perfectly good hook cutters.

I use these. Only $11 a piece and should cut thru any large hook up to Musky lure hooks.

 

I should know, I got a big hook in my hand last summer and got an infection. You can get these at Menards. I'd just put them in a sealed ziploc and leave them in the boat for emergencies.

Cut way easier than diagonal cutters.  Also good for cables and housing as they don't crush them.
