can a 12' jon be decked for 2 seats ...

Featured Replies

or will I fall over board reaching for a lure ??

in all seriousness I have a thick gauge alum. jon with 3 standard bench seats ( well the front seat is just little right up up to the tip )  . It's only 12 foot but it seems to be a little wider than a standard one .

Question is ... can I put 2 pole type seats up on decks in some way ??

I only have plans to put a decent trolling motor on it ... where I'll be fishing it I have no need for anything bigger

I have a 1232 that I recently fixed up.  I haven't put seats in it because I wanted to take it out on the water first to see how steady it was.  I took it and found out that it was way too unstable for a tall pedestal.  I think I'll put a seat mounted straight to the bench on the back and maybe a short pedestal on the middle bench, that way I can keep my feet planted on the floor of the boat, not up on the deck.  Here's a link to my boat. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1202602713

hey !!!!!!

thanks for the welcome !!

that's what I'm thinking .... safety issues . I don't want my 8 year old going over for a swim .

any suggestions for making life a little more comfortable on a 12 '

I really like some of the projects I've seen on here ( especially the above posted one ). And have access to a ton of tools , alum extrusion framing . and what not .

90 % of the time I fish standing up so a deck of some sort would be ideal . But of course I've got to be able to sit down once in a while .

Maybe just deck from the front seat to the middle and put a non pole chair right on the bench seat and then just put another on the back seat for my son .

You are in luck,

Russ's boat is very stable and comfortable to fish out of. He should be along here shortly...

I have a 12' jon boat similar to yours and I found that it was too unstable with a pedistal seat on a deck built above the bench seats.

I tore out the high deck and put in a deck about 1 1/2 inches above the floor in front of the front bench seat. A pedistal seat there works well and is very stable.

I'll try to take some pictures and post them this weekend.

I like that idea.  I think on my next jon boat I'll do the same.
