Hi, I want to upgrade my old spinning rod to either M or MH,

I end up with either Duckett 6ft 9 MH Fast action

and 

Fenwick HMG 7ft MH Fast action

Would you guys recommend MH or M for all purpose?

 

I am fishing 99% of the time inshore, most of the time in Lake St.clair, Need advice on those 2 rods please, any advice would be nice

Fenwick fishes a bit heavier than most so medium hmg would be a good choice. I have fished lake st Clair with a St Croix mojo 6'8 m-xf spinning rod and had no trouble at all.

since fenwick hmg and duckett ghost are the same price, so I do not know which is better, but I heard you cant go wrong with both....so M is better all purpose rod than MH?

For an all around baitcaster, MH would be the choice. For a spinning rod, a M would be best.

Can't comment on duckett, but I have a fenwick hmg 6'9 ml-f spinning rod and I really like it. Light, sensitive, balanced, strong. It's my drop shot, neko, and finesse rod. 

 

Agreed that a medium powered rod for spinning is best all around and medium heavy for baitcasting. Your best bet is to find a rod that has a lure rating of what you want to use ie. A senko weighs 3/8oz, so most medium power rods should work well. But a 1/2oz jig plus a creature bait will end up around 1oz, thats medium heavy power.

This is one of the best all around spinning rods I've ever used. I've upgraded all my Mojo rods except for this one because I liked it so much.

So I guess for all purpose spinning set up, it’s better to use M instead of MH??

Medium Heavy.

For spinning I'd prefer M, casting MH for all around rods.

I never had any MH spinning ,is a big different between MH and M?

In the rods I've owned it is. A MH spinning rod is only good for a select few techniques while a M can do the finesse stuff and the heavier stuff and be ideal for a majority of your typical spinning gear techniques. 

For all around, as stated in the initial post, I agree with posters who recommend Med.  Especially when you mention Lake St Clair which to me implies mostly smallmouth fishing.  But early, even the largemouths are hitting small squarebills.  Most of your fishing probably is with lighter rather than heavier lures, and the Med will load better with the lighter lures making casting easier and less tear out of small trebles on the squarebills.  I use braid less than 15 with an FC leader all the time there.  Good hook sets, good casting, good feel, usually with a med power spin, 7 foot.  Don't worry about the length.

 

The only thing I do that is done better with a MH is skirted jig fishing where the MH loads fine on the cast (usually 1/2 oz) and provides a little better hook set and snapping through weeds.
