19 Aug 2018 ~ When Pigs Fly (video)

Recommended Posts

I made a sunrise trip this morning looking for some topwater smallies.  I do not usually venture out on the lakes on weekends before Labor Day.  Seems the extra boating traffic puts the bite off for the most part.  But with the big girls being so shallow I just couldn’t help myself.  Plan was to get in & out early and see what happens.

Well what happened was a gorgeous tanker of a smallmouth climbed all over a walking bait just after sunrise.

She went nuts, jumping all over, like these wonderful fish are so prone to do, putting on quite a show. I was loving every second of it.

Fortunately all the air time gassed her out by the time she got boat side so the net job was mostly uneventful – not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Got to break in the new scale in style to the tune of 6 lbs 4 ½ ounces.

Might be one of the prettiest Bronzeback’s of the season – Colors were just amazing.

May have to reconsider the no weekend fishing thing.

btw - Really looking forward to when that fall bite to starts . . . .

Another dandy A-Jay ....

In my waters they would start chartered tours to see a Smallmouth that big.

Would you call that a menderchunk?

She's a beauty for sure! And as always, nice job on the vid!

LOL ~ and Thanks.

One thing that landing a few of this size fish does is it makes me a little more than just optimistic that her great, great-grandmother may be poking around there somewhere.

So maximizing my time there during peak periods (basically as much as I can) may produce That Next Class or above of Smallmouth.

I'm thinking state record catch or even beyond.

Either way, I will do everything I can to be ready . . . .

Fantastic fish A-Jay. One day I would like to add a smallmouth on my list of fish caught.
