10 foot jon boat conversion to bass boat

Featured Replies

im starting the mods. on my 10 foot jon boat today. To tell the truth i'm really not 100% sure what i want to do witrh it. Any suggestions or tips with modifying small jon boats in to bass boats?

i will be posting some pictures as i go on with this project.

i will post pictures of mine when i get home...

use marine grade plywood for the deck, 1/2 inch, obviously outdoor carpet, build a frame out of angle aluminum (to keep it light) rivet the frame but use screws into the actual boat so you can take it apart if neccesarry.

i have a 12footer and really wish i had the 14 footer, i can't imagine a 10footer, good luck i'll post pictures and more advise as i think of it.

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT DECK A 10" JON.  PERIOD.

You can add 3/8 in floors to give you a flat surface to stand on but these just drop in to the spaces in the floor between the seats, there is no need to put screws into the hull.  Ever.

CLICK THIS to see my 12' jon.  These are the kind of floors I'm talking about.  MINUS the carpeting, they will hold too much water and add too much weight.

10's are very tricky boats, be careful and ALWAYS be aware of how you store things in it. (i.e. make sure battery is "centered", tm is centered, etc)

Do not use a pedestal.  Clamp on seats recommended

Sitting in the back, the corners are easy to go under if you adjust your weight to one corner too quickly and I only weigh 135 lbs.  Just be careful.

Welcome!

i agree with Lowbudgethooker. Its really not safe to add a deck to that small of a johnboat. I also have a 10 footer and i rarely use it because i also have a canoe. I bought a motor mount for it and use it more because it is easier to haul around and quieter to the fish. Its also barely more unstable than the johnboat.

the boats actuall length is 11 feet 6 inches..kinda weird lol. the tip of the bow is 31 inches across and the transom measures 44 inches across...

Still to small to for a deck.  I use a 10' for small ponds and out of the way places.  Here are a few pics. of what I started.  I used that pin system so that I can remove it when needed.

Oh yeah, I also removed the back seat and have 1/2" ply wood down with a pedestal seat.  The seat is only 2" higher then the original seats, so its not unstable.  I moved the middle seat back to about the middle of the boat and have another piece of 1/2" ply wood down in front of of the seat.  Everything is removable that way it is easy to carry or drag to places.  I'm still have some work to do, but it is coming along nicely.

Yea no deck but, carpet it wall to wall ;D

A cumfy seat and some fun stuff on it ;)

Cujo, cool boat too, what's the brand name on the trolling motor?

Cool garage too, space heater and fridge :) BooYAA

I've been lookin for an old cheap bow mount trolling motor like that. Anybody know where I could maybe find one?

I'm going to use that pin idea. I really like that. I'm going to make a small deck.

The motor is a Minn Kota that I got from a guy off of Craigslist for $40.  Works fine, can't beat it!

Warm garage with a frig. full of cold Yuenglings!
