Rolling Toad.. (Z-man Hard Legz Frog)

Recommended Posts

I'm new to throwing toads. I have started with the Z-man Hard Legz Frog because I thought the ElaZtech would last a little longer than the other soft plastics. I am throwing it on a 3/0 wide gap hook with a 1/16 oz pegged weight. I cannot get the thing to run with out spiraling. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I was hoping they'd be a good, durable option too, but never had any luck with them. Also had problems with them not wanting to run right. I think the buoyancy of the material had something to do with it.

Can you suggest a more reliable toad?

The Yum Tip Toad has really impressed me. Cast great, runs true, good durability, and priced right.

Keitech and Rage Tail run well.

Double hooks make straight rigging easy, especially Owner with keepers.  Any 'bow' in your toads will promote spiralling.

Tip-Toad works on single hooks, too:

The issue is gonna be the peg weight. You gotta use a keel weighted hook. This particular frog is so buoyant that a non-weighted hook just won't work. I recommend a Gamakatsu EWG Weighted Hook 1/16oz 3/0 because this frog won't thread up on a screw lock either. But, hook it Tex-posed and it'll catch fish and last for many catches.
