Kayak anchor system

Recommended Posts

I just picked up my Pelican Catch 120 today and I am looking into an anchor system. I am looking at the low profile anchor wizard off the rear of the yak. I see a lot of people with a trolley rope at the side to move it more towards the front or rear...This will be used in rivers as well as lakes.....Thanks for any input..Scott

I use the Anchor Wizard but without the chute.  I run the line through a trolley.

I just use a stake-out pole and an anchor trolley, but a nice system to anchor in deep water for offshore fishing would be nice.

Thanks for pointing out the anchor wizard, you guys.

After going thru a bunch of you tube videos I think I will just get a scuba diving reel. Less than $20 on the auction site and should work for any usage I have realistically..Thanks for the input....

Same here. If you fish any deeper waters it’s a must have.

I use Yak-Gear trolleys on each side of my Lure with a 5 pound claw on 40’ of line.

I can choose which side based on which way the wind blows and what part of a pond I’m fishing.

If you've got a big wallet, Power Pole has the Micro-Anchor that I have seen used on Yaks and small tinneys.

I would second the Micro Power Pole for shallow anchoring. I would also second the low pro anchor wizard for deeper anchoring.

I don't use any. If it's so windy I can't fish, I have a little pond I can go to anytime that's down in a hollow that rarely sees more than a ripple. I tried a system and actually have an anchor but it was too much hassle.

But the Micro Power Pole looks cool. I just don't want more $$$ in my anchor than in my kayak. I plan to upgrade the kayak maybe by next season. I'd like one I can stand in.

Be very careful anchoring in a river. I've flipped once doing it and had another close call this summer. What happens is, when the anchor gets stuck and you go to retrieve it by positioning the yak perpendicular to where the line is going into the water, the current will wash over the top of the yak and flip you. I no longer anchor in strong currents or rivers. I had to detach and throw the anchor line in the water on the second close call. Retrieved it after I got my senses back.
