I'm in a world of trouble now!!!

Recommended Posts

My wife bought a new, Lazy Boy Leather recliner a couple of weeks ago while visiting her sister and helping her get things in order after here husband recently passed.  Saturday, we drove the 100 miles to her sisters house to get it.  Wrapped it in a blanket and tied it with the back rest laying in the cushion.  When I turned on the road to the house about eight miles out, the chair must have shifted and let the rope get slack.  About four miles from the house, I see in the mirror,  the backrest her new $1,000 leather recliner flipping down the road.  Needless to say, things are not good at the homestead right now.

22 years of moving all over the country and back and fourth to Europe with the military, I have never had one thing I've packed and moved damaged, but that track records means nothing now.

Luckily, it only damaged the back corners so none of the visible leather was damaged.  I can do upholstery and have a couple commercial, walking foot machines I use for restoring automobiles so repairing it is not a problem (for me but that doesn't matter to her).  It also knocked the framing out of square and loosened some joints, but I'm a pretty good cabinet maker also, made all her kitchen cabinets that she loves, so fixing that is not a problem either, again, not to her though.

All she see's is her new chair *****up!

My wife has 2 hand painted ceramic candle holders that belonged to her grandmother. I was playing tug of war with our lab and a big rubber chewing ring when he turned loose and the ring went flying. It knocked one of the holders off the coffee table and made a small chip on the base. I glued the chip back, sanded and re glazed the base to good as new.

15 years later she tells anyone who comments on how pretty they are "except that one where HE knocked it in the floor".  You'll never live long enough to hear the end off that chair.

Amazing how the wife remembers all the bad things you did but never remember the good things.  🙄

It's called selective memory. All women have it.

Trust me, mine never forgets.  49 years of marriage and she can describe in great detail every thing I ever did that did not please her.  I will be hounded every time I haul anything of hers from now to eternity.

The blame thing was wrapped completely in a large blanket and the feet of it was sitting on the ends with  a 5/16 rope going over it. but the thing still manage to slip out.

Do you guys know that the only married guy on the Andy Griffin Show was the town drunk, Otis Campbell, who was always in jail?

All the other characters were single.

Go figure.

I learned towing my canoe around: never use rope, always use a strap.

When the rope fails it's a costly lesson.

Tell the little lady it could have been worse. You were thinking of having her sit in it on the way home. 🤣

Did  the exact same thing once - watched a brand new wrapped couch go flying out of my truck bed onto the middle of the Interstate in my rear view mirror :o same basic damage...and I'm still alive to share the story some 15 years later - lol.

My mother...god rest her soul...to the day she passed a few years ago never let me forget the time the cat jumped up on the dining room table and from across the room I flung a coin at it and missed. What I did hit was her brand new fancy glass/crystal decoration thingy that was the center piece of the table, shattering it into a million shards.....which was over 30 years ago.

Good luck OP.

Now that was CLEARLY the dog's fault.😁

Well, the chair has been repaired since about a week after making this post.  There is absolutely no way anyone but Lay-Z-boy (and her) would ever tell it was damaged. The piece of leather I got was just a shade off in direct light so I used it to make the back panel and used the piece of back panel to replace damaged pieces that would be visible from the sides or front. So it would not be visible, I had to make a seam across the top of the back.  Originally there was no seam, they just folded it over the top of the back and came all the way to the cushion  The chair sits with the back facing a wall and in normal light, with the replacement piece the way it is, you can not tell it's not a perfect match.  Yet, a friend of hers was at the house Sunday and commented on how much she loved her new recliner.  My wife's response, "it was a nice chair until Keith dumped the back out of the truck in the middle of the highway bringing it home and tore it all to pieces".  It only damaged the top two corners and one bottom corner.

Like I said, I'll go to may grave hearing about it.

Might be why he stayed drunk. 🤔 Just sayin.

My wife occasionally brings up something ( I dont remember ) from our first year of marriage. Apparently I asked her if she ever washed the clothes 😞 .
