Why is bass fishing so addicting?

Recommended Posts

fishing is my passion. if i’m not doing it, i’m thinking about it, reading about it, watching it on tv, tinkering with my gear or my boats, all the above. i love being on the water. i’ll fish alone or with someone, doesn’t matter. i’m that guy on the water when it’s raining, or when the winds blowing too hard, or the water is too muddy, too cold, too hot or too whatever. this doesn’t mean that i always catch them or that i’m any better than anybody else. i just love to fish. i love the challenge, the sporting element. i dont want to beat the other guy. i dont need to win anything. i dont want a tv camera to put me on the fish. just man vs fish, amidst all that God has given us to enjoy. simple as that.

You could ask the same of golf, or bowling, or any other pastime.  There is nothing special about any of them, except to the people who pursue them.

Because no matter how serious when we catch a fish we still feel like this.

It's a constant learning process. You can spend a lifetime bass fishing. I have been addicted for years, and I'm more enthusiastic about it than ever

I might be second after you, today I caught 2 bass and I talked to myself "d**n it is a bass again" lol.

To me it is not only bass, I just love fishing, period. I love to fish for any type. Sometime I will go out drifting for catfish, I used to be super crazy about carp. I love ocean fishing and I don't mind hiking for trout.

Fishing is either in your genes or it isn't.

Catching bass consistantly isn't any different then any other fish species, bass will strike a wider variety of articial lures then most other game fish making them easier to catch.

What tends to happen is we feel challenged to catch bass and have a vast amount of tackle and toys to achieve that goal. To me all game fish are challenging.

i heard someone asked a friend why he enjoyed what he does on his free time (ju jitsu) and his answer made sense why anyone chases a passion. he said it makes him suffer.

once he said that it totally made sense why i chase bass. all those countless days of getting sunked sometimes in brutal conditions is humbling. but once in a while things line up , all those hours of slaving away cast after cast makes that catch so much sweeter.

Difficult to say. Here in NC bass can be found about everywhere, and they fight good. That has something to do with it.

I just read the title of this thread again and I don’t care why it is so addictive. I just want more

It's a conspiracy generated by subliminal messages hidden in Bass Pro/Cabelas commercials.

Gotta be something else...I haven't watched TV in over 6 years so the subliminal messaging would have worn off by now.

Anyone addicted to bass fishing is addicted because they love it. Like any hobby.

Yes sir I still feel like a happy kid when I catch a new species of bass or catch another trophy bass to add to my list. Bass fishing is one of my favorite hobbies and I plan on bass fishing for as long as I can.

I have 2 fishing buddies. Funny enough their ladies fish and so does mine. So it's 3 fishing couples. Pretty sweet deal if I may say so. One of my buddies told me I get just as excited over a 10 incher as I do a 3 pounder. Yes sir I do. I love to catch them. I love the bass species. I don't care how big or small unless we're talking BIG. I'm a little kid out there every time. As a Packers fan I compare it to Brett Favre playing football. He had the time of his life no matter what. That's how I am fishing. That's how almost all of us fishermen and ladies are. Some men like golf, some like pool, some like video games, some like cars, some like it all and everything inbetween. A hobby hits your soul.

I believe there's a God given natural love and talent in hobbies. We all know people who may or may not be pros (it doesn't matter) who are better than the rest, who love it more than the rest, and in many cases we are those people with our hobby. Many of us know really good golf players, really good pool players, really good bowlers, read good video gamers, really good mechanics. People who are in tune with what they do and they love it. Same with us. I'm no pro and many of you aren't pros. But most of us are really good and we love what we do. For me personally, I'm by far the most into bassin compared to my circle of people. By far. Y'all are too. It's why we're here. I and many of you go out and outperform the crowd most days and we're enthusiastic. My wife once asked why I can fish a place and catch fish and catch good fish at 10 times the rate of the rest of us. I told her ultimately I don't know, but if I had to guess it's because of time spent fishing and learning, and loving what I do.  We feel the water different. We see the water different. We can identify bass locations and fish them effectively. It's 100 perfect feel for the sport and a true love. Like all sports a hobbies.
